roman numerals

Sorry, but I'm constantly out of patience with the fact that hardly anyone seems to know how Roman Numerals work so they part make them up.

CLX - OK? CL2X means nothing. You cannot mix Roman and Arabic numerals.

C= 100

L=50

X=10

Add them together and you get 160. The next one will be CLX1; then CLX11; CLX111 - then

CLX1V because V=5 but it's 4 so you put a 1 before it making it minus 1.

Then there's CLXV; CLXV1; CLXV11; CLXV111; then

CLX1X (10-1=9)

Then CLXX

And so on.

Other useful landmark letters not mentioned above are:

D=500

M=1000
