Not here in West Texas... It's bright sunny and 70's... (Sorry!).... Stay warm!

I live near Syracuse and have been inundated by snow since the second week in December! Several times I have taken the advice of the weatherman and gone to the store to stock up in case I don't feel like blowing my 100 foot drive (don't forget the big turn around I always keep clear so I don't have to back up in pure white and land in a ditch). I even keep bird seed in stock because the poor birds have had a terrible winter. I watched this most recent nasty storm as it moved insidiously toward the Syracuse region and I kept hoping it might slide just enough to the east that I would escape the worst of the storm. It missed me!!!!! I am sorry for the southern tier but boy, am I glad to have dodged this latest dump of the white s@*^^--!!! My Siberian huskies think I am wimp, but the red winged blackbirds are back, the yellow finch males are coloring up and I am ready for Spring!!! I have bought numerous books for my Kindle and practically hibernated since mid December and I am ready for daffodils!

Wow, yoyobon, 18 inches of snow - yikes! We evidently received the equivalent amount of rain here in Connecticut yesterday. The DH and I were up half the night making sure the basement sump pumps were running and the brook behind our house didn't decide to come indoors.

It's been a crazy winter! I'm anxious for daffodils, too, though I expect we'll have mud season for quite a while first.

Yes, we had record rainfall here in southern Ontario which started Friday went all day Saturday and sometime overnight turned into snow so we woke up to a nice layer Sunday morning, tho nowhere near the 18 inches you received. The temperatures lately have been up and down so it has been rain, snow, melt; rain, snow, melt for the past two weeks. Must say I am tired of it!

Wow, that is quite a surprise for early March! Could have been me - but we got rain, all rain, lots of rain for over 24 hours now. We were supposed to have snow at some point but it never happened. One good thing is the snowpack has shrunk dramatically since Friday. In mud up to my ankles, so fun. It is strange to see everything so bare and exposed, even more so than in the fall because it is all smashed down now.

When I moved in here last April there was a little pot of daffodils with grass - one of those things the grocery stores sell at Easter. I watered it faithfully because the cats loved it, and let the old leaves wither away. To my surprise five daffodils have popped up and are looking very joyful right now. I have a little pot of miniature roses in full bloom and the geraniums are going like crazy in the south-facing bay window. Such cheer!

But realistically, there will be more snow in my near future, winter is not over yet.

Went to bed listening to the sump pump running, as we had had pelting rain all day here in south-central PA...but woke up to snow on the ground, cars, deck...but not the roads.

sheriz - if I remember correctly you live near the area where the Housatonic had a flotilla of motor vehicles floating along it, including a couple of pick up trucks?

yoyoban, we had the heavy rain and then this morning a snow event that lasted about 30 minutes, and made everything looking like baked goods with confectioner's sugar decoration.

Mudlady - I grew up in Syracuse, lots of snow, no so many snow days. I laugh where I live now and they close the schools before the snow even starts.

This winter will end some day...right? Maybe because the Easter (and I believe Passover) holy days are so late, the weather control center thinks that spring can wait.

It has been snowing here in southern Iceland since yesterday morning. I haven't seen any numbers, but where it is level I would say it is at least a foot deep, with deeper drifts. I went up north to stay with my parents over the weekend, and was delayed from returning for several hours while the road was being cleared. Lots of ice on the road - thank goodness for nail-studded tyres. This is the biggest snowfall we have had in this area all winter, but it never gets as bad here as it can in the north.

netla, just checked out your webcam pictures. After a while I realised those dark blobs surrounded by icy-blue were people swimming. I think 'your' weather will be heading to N Scotland (we still hear the shipping forecast every day which starts/ends with Iceland)hopefully with less snow.
Here we have had one whole day with unbroken sunshine, the first time for several weeks/even months. Some hazy yellow-stuff this morning. Crocus and daff buds appearing, bird doing their chirpy things, but it will be another month before leaves/buds get going.

Vee: YES!!! I did send you some of this super-hot weather and you got it! We have actually had some reasonably milder days. Just as well as I had to go outdoors to keep an eye on the tree-lopper (give a man a chainsaw....) to make sure I had some tree left to shade my picture window.
I realise the gutters have to be kept clear but I also did not want to see stumps either. I had to get him back to redo a couple left sticking out! (Heavy sigh)

Veronica, I'm in central Connecticut, nowhere near the Housatonic. The rain in CT has been awful and the brook that runs behind my house did flood out upstream a bit. When you mentioned a flotilla of vehicles all I could think of was the Australian flood video I'd seen. Thank goodness nothing that bad! The Connecticut River is a couple miles east of me, but not close enough to have to worry about.

Sunshine and 40 degrees F today -- and my crocus, alium, and daffys have decided that now that the snowpack is gone (all of 24 hours now), they must instantly sprout -- poor things will be in for a rough few weeks to come, I think.

The newspapers today claim that some areas got 2 feet of snow.
It sure was a lot to move.
The size of the snow piles reminded me of when I was little and we'd tunnel through snowbanks and make houses and forts.
It was such fun...and I remember how beautiful the color of the snow was from the inside when the sun was shining.
Of course that was before we learned that there could be a cave in or that the snowplow could come through and scoop us away !
Now kids never seem to enjoy those snowbanks the same way.

sheriz - I was confused. I had thought the Housatonic was near New Milford, but Google showed me Oxford being more central. That's why I thought it was close to you. My kids are living in CT for about the last 4 years (2 sets of them) and I am just beginning to get the geography. And every time I get oriented, one of them moves!

Feeling lucky in my adopted city: Charleston is having temps in the 60's this week, with tiny leaves sprouting out on trees, tulip magnolias and daffodils already in bloom!

We are promised heavy rain tonight and tomorrow with some snow showers possible Thursday morning.

My daffodils are budding. I bought a potted hyacinth with three beautiful flower shoots a couple of weeks ago. It perfumed the whole house and will get planted outside in a couple of weeks. The peonies are just breaking through the ground, and the maple tree in the back yard is showing that pink bloom that drops all over the patio and the yard when it is finished doing its thing.

We did some landscaping last spring after our move but didn't put in any flowers. We are busily looking at the gardening catalogs and planning for this year.

Whenever there is a mention of snow in the Northern hemisphere, I always remember the look of childish wonder on my husband's face when he woke to see his first snowfall when we were in the UK.
"It makes everything look so beautiful" he said.
He would come back from business trips in the country with stories of children sliding down rises on tea-trays and fields gleaming in the winter sun.
"Just like a 'Dickens-style' Christmas card illustration!" I enjoyed his enjoyment.

It is really beautiful.
I love the kind of snow that sparkles like diamonds in the evening under the lights. It is magical.
There's nothing as cozy as a good snowstorm while it's happening.
It negates any possibilities of having to run errands and opens up time to spend doing things that bring sheer pleasure...like reading !
When I can muster up the desire to bundle up, I love to go out at night right after a big snowfall , before any plows have come, and take a hike down the road past all the neighbors. Usually many are out, even if it's 11 at night, beginning to shovel or just to enjoy the sight and relieve their cabin fever. Everyone is so friendly and in a kind of festive mood, probably because we've all survived the onslaught of nature !

Thanks, Vee. I'm not snowed in (68F today) but I enjoyed it anyway.

Here in the Mohawk Valley of NY the snowfall ranged from 10-20+ inches. I got to shovel (yes, shovel, the snowblower quit last winter and hasn't been replaced) 14 inches of snow almost the entire length of the driveway. It would have been the whole length (80-90 feet, but who's measuring!) but my neighbors took pity on me and used their snow blower on the bottom 25 feet when the had finished their driveway. As it was, it took me 3/ 1/2 hours to clear as much as I did. And now my arms are very sore. You'd think all the shoveling I did the rest of the winter would have strengthened them but this was very heavy snow.

We had 3 inches of rain in 21 hours, and the Ohio River is at flood stage with low-lying areas and viaducts flooded on some city streets. More rain promised for tomorrow, maybe mixed with snow, but our forecasters love to predict snow. We get in such a panic.

In New York City there hasn't been any snow since many weeks ago. Since winter is my favourite season I've been disappointed by this winter. . . . The only good part was the HUGE snow blizzard in late-January (early-Feb ?) -- 22" of snow -- Central Park was glorious! ... and I didn't mind the shoveling at all -- my nice landlord lets me deduct it off my rent!

A mild snow storm a few weeks later cheered things up for awhile. But ever since, it's been rain or clear days. Boo! Yes, there was a DELUGE of rain couple nights ago -- lasted evening thru overnight.
