I have had a Franklinia alatamaha for some 15 years. I almost lost it in the first location as the clay soil did not allow for drainage. It is now moved to an open woodland edge with looser, well drained, but moist soil. I can see it from my kitchen window. Last year it had 17 bloom. Our winter was brutal with a couple of weeks having multiple days below zero. I wondered if my little GA belle would survive, but it came through just fine and I counted 42 buds which have been opening for several weeks. A UNC grad school friend spent his career in his home state of GA. Systematically, he and a friend looked for Franklinia over a 30 year period, but never found it. They discussed this on a field trip in GA to see Elliottia"a member of the Rhododendron family"which is on its âÂÂway out.â Many species of Miocene origin have lost their ability to sexually reproduce and reproduce by cloning. I want to try germinating some seed, but noticed one posting which declared seed germination almost non-existent. As with Elliottia and other species, this likely explains their absence in native vegetation. God bless the Bartrams because I love my little Georgia Belle.

Nyssa sylvaticas are absolutely beautiful. They are not grown here in western Wa. state very often. I'm going to have to shop around and see if I can acquire one or two. I have some wet ground that just might suit them. Thanks for the posting Treeguy ny

Okay, Medo and CarolynP effectively twisted my arm! I'm in! I see some things that I can fill requests for, too, which is going to be such fun! I am concerned over the names that noone else has picked to send to yet. Is there any way we can pick from the list of people that haven't been picked yet to be sure we're sending something to everyone? I'd love to volunteer to send things I have to several of them to be sure to spread the holiday spirit more evenly. Just LMK how you want to handle that issue, Kym, okay? I'd be happy to wait until you get a list from other people of who they're sending to before I pack up my seeds. Here's my list. The first two are my biggest wants; the rest are simply in alphabetical order: 1. Fruit - (anything that makes good fruit for eating/canning when grown from seed) *BIGGEST WISH* 2. Vegetables - (just about ANY not on my list as I'm collecting seed from tons of stuff to hopefully have an insanely huge stash to plant from and share) * Bay Laurel Tree (Bay Leaves) * Berries (any edibles) * Chinese Lantern (prefer named varieties) * Corn, Ornamental - (any variegated variety) * Custard Apple - (any variety) * Figs - (any variety) * Grains, Ornamental - (any variety) * Grapes - any named * Hazelnut Shrub/Tree (or any edible nut shrub/tree that comes true from seed) * Kale - Redbor * Lettuce - Merlot * Miracle Berry / Miracle Fruit * Passion Fruit Vine - (I would like to grow any named varieties) * Saw Palmetto * Squash/Gourd/Pumpkin - (any uncommon varieties) * Tomato - Hawaiian Currant * Tomato - Ildi * Wonder Egg (tropical fruit plant) Blessings, Angela

I'd like some Franklin tree seeds. Would you be interested in maca (Lepidium peruvianum) seeds? I also have seeds of quince tree and pits from an heirloom rareripe peach. Those were harvested this year, and the maca seeds are from last year (packed for 2018). You can check out my trade list as well, but I haven't gotten around to updating it recently, so not everything I have is on there.
