I will keep you updated on that and I sure want updates on Hargrand as well please :). Hargrand was my second choice, but if I had done more research on apricots before buying my trees, it would have been my first choice. I was interested in Goldcot and moongold as well. I have never tasted any of them, but store bought only and I found them very good, actually. I too hope that a tree ripened one is going to be even better! We might have to be patients though, as I read many times that apricot blossoms are very frost sensitive and therefore, rarely set fruit in our fluctuating climate here in the NorthEast. Still, I am hoping it is not going to be the case with hardy varieties such as Harlayne and Hargrand... Btw, I pruned mine into a very low open vase shape, so it stays under snow as long as possible to delay blooming, but still gets plenty of sun in summer. Plus, that way, there is a proper airflow to prevent all the humidity diseases of the NE.

Maryl, your hubby has a good eye! I can't speak about the heat you experience, but RA holds up wonderfully in the summer heat here. (We do get a few 90-plus degree days in July/August. The blooms have a thick substance and I don't notice any color fading, but it's hard to know how it would fare there. If you ever want to try it out just let me know in the spring and I can send you some fans. Here's another pic of it, this past summer when we had drought conditions.....

you live in METRO detroit ... by definition .. its suburban ... if you can see more than one neighbor.. its suburban ... if your roads are paved... etc .... just because you have a couple horses.. does NOT make you rural ... lol ... can we at least agree.. your are not urban ... in the city ... anyway ... the easiest way to avoid grief.. with apricot.. is to avoid them ... in SE MI ... i presume you will agree we live in SE MI???? i highly recommend you get that refund.. and be done with them ... i have banged my head on the barn called apricot ... for decades.... i highly recommend you avoid said banging ... it gets old fast ... do as i say.. not as i did .. imo ... always a pleasure.... ken ps: anywhere around metro detroit. that is a claimed z6 .. is.. in my book.. living the effect of being in the suburban weather effect ... and the only problem with that claimed z6 ... is that every couple years.. they get socked with the reality.. that they are really z5 .... like everything else for hundreds of miles... imo.. the only true z6 in MI .. is the west coast fruit belt .. but i digress ...
