It doesn't do anything to accelerate the growth of the tree. It's just a pot with the holes sealed, the water evaporates pretty fast here -- except during the monsoon season -- water has to be added at least every other day. I posted a few pics in the other thread. There isn't any root-rot, when we re-potted the roots were all good and healthy, nice white tips. I've actually fed the tree since I've had it (about 4 years now) and it's been growing a lot better. It's fairly common for this to be done in tropical climates, most ficus will adapt with no problems at all. My biggest fight is with alge growth, I have been growing the water lettuce in this and another pot to cut down on that. You could do it in your area but in the winter (indoors) you would have to change the water so it didn't become stagnant and brackish, maybe use a small aquarium pump. Bob

Perma, I got every Russian lilac Peter had! I had some in Alaska after I read an article Peter wrote about how wonderful they were years ago. It was too cold for them at my home in Alaska. They did not bloom there for me outside of Anchorage. A gardener friend there had "Beauty of Moscow" bloom for him in Anchorage. The fragrance and beauty was astounding, I thought. That is the only one I have seen bloom. I hope they like it here. Also, vapor, I told Peter what a help you were recommending him. I just called you vaporvac from Houzz. If you ever want to out yourself to him, I'm sure he appreciates your recommendations and you should keep them up.

No not orphans, just a LOT of leftovers from the top and also a lot of small cuts in my stash - 1/8 and 1/4 cuts of fabric that needs to be used. I think I took just as long on the backing as I did on the top, I hope I never make that mistake again. I just now noticed that this quilt would be a good one for a group quilt, lots of places for signatures. I do have a drawer full of orphan blocks, I need to use them for something.
