I plant Tenderpod, Roma II, Early Bush Italian, and this year I'm trying Valentino. Usually I plant two varieties at each sowing (9 plants each). I do also have yellow wax beans, maybe half as many as the green beans. Maybe my soil is really good, or my family doesn't eat as many beans as others. We only have beans about 2 or three times a week, there are so many other veggies to eat too :-) So I find 18 plants every 2-3 weeks is enough beans for us.

Renee - LOL! Amen to that. As of April 11, we have a 50% chance of frost. By April 26, that drops to 10%. Last year, we had a cool night around May 17, but no frost. This year, we haven't had a frost since March 9. We've been near freezing several times, but no frost. In the fall, we usually get a late October or early November frost. Had a very light one this year in November. The killing frost came on December 5. You can find the numbers for your zone here. NCDC. Choose your state, then find your town on the pdf file that pops up.

Beans will be fine, maybe the cantalope and mustard. If the watermelon is started you might as well plant it. Might be too warm for spinach and lettuce but if you shade the seed with straw and keep it damp it might be cool enough long enough to sprout but it may bolt faster than normal. As for the rest, what have you got to lose? tj
