Perhaps not so common newt

For some time I have been convinced my newts were common ones--but not really sure. I really think now that they are in their mating colours, that they are palmate newts. Palmate newts are more common in Devon than elsewhere, so it is more likely.

Also just found out that newts live for 10 years!! I wondered as a couple of them are quite distinctive in their shape. One (known as Kinky) has a distinctive crooked tail and is back for the third year.

There are great crested newts about 2 miles away, so who knows. Perhaps one or two will get very adventurous.

No sight of the kingfisher though so far, at least when I have been home. But the stickelback population seems to remain very very stable!!

Never ceased to be amazed by what having a big hole in the ground filled with water, attracts.
