If you see a white "fungus" looking growth on the trunk/central leader in the top 1/3 of the tree it is the pine weevil. I lost a blue spruce here in Texas to the southern pine weevil this year. Same thing happened. New growth flushed and looked great-then it wilted in June-July and the top 1/3 of the tree dropped all its needles. If you cut the top out and train a branch to take over as a leader you can save the tree.

The endwalls come up the bottom 2.5 feet and can travel over the inside crops or go over the new crop, as in carrots. Here is a video of moving it. My brother in law is on the other side and they slide right down the track with minimal effort (minimal for me). I have now gotten to point that I move them myself. I just pull it up myself. I just yank one side 2 to 3 feet and then walk over and do the same thing to the other side and just walk it up or down the rails. It takes me about 30 minutes to unbolt, move one space and rebolt it in its new home. It takes about 20 minutes if I have two people. Some people show how they can move their high tunnel, much bigger with just 2 people. Those systems are extremely high priced and in my mind aren't worth the expense. Why spend $1,000's of dollars in tracks and wheels to move it "Easier" 3 or 4 times a year. About the plastic and PVC interaction, I haven't seen it. I have replaced my plastic after 4 years due to seam failures, not plastic/PVC interactions. I have never painted them either. I am thinking I will get 8 to 10 years out of it, or more. However, my first tunnel, I did a minor replacement of the soft 2 by 4's after 4 years. The funny thing is the 2 by 4 hip boards were in worse shape than the baseboards. Both were untreated pine. We have these in a deep purplish/pink color on the forest floor of our property. They grow under the Madrone trees. We have oaks on the property, but these don't grow under them. I loved seeing them come up, but didn't know they may harm the trees. Should we try to knock some of them out? (We don't use poison on anything here) This is the first internet source I have found for any information on these at all - I know I'm not in a similar region as the original post. However, the photo shows an identical plant to the one we have (just a different color). What family of plants do these belong to? Are they a fungi or succulent, or are they in a category of their own? Are they identified by the fact they take their nutrients off of another plant (the roots of the tree)? Thanks.

yeah.. i think a tag with the name on it.. helps.. lol ... now.. go get a hammer.. and a nail ... pounfd the nail some the garage wall ... walk out and take that tag off.. and hang it on the nail.. use said nail for all tags.. and you will always know where the tags are ... eh??? full sun is usually considered anything over 8 hours ... last ???? .. these things dont get lawn sprinkled every day ... do they??? bottom line ... looking scraggly after winter ... will probably look a lot better once it leafs out ... i really dont see a problem with it .. that would cause me to do anything about it ... no conifers.. holds its needles forever.. most 1 to 3 years ... some years more shed than other years... subject to things like drought.. bad winter.. etc ... and usually ... diseases.. are specific to the plant... pine problems arent going to cause crab probs.. or spruce .. or glauca ... etc ... enjoy it.. keep an eye on it.. but dont fret nor worry ..... ken
