white fungus on small weping white pine

hello
i have a small weeping white pine in a large patio planter, it's about 4ft high and is 4 years old. i recently noticed a white fungus all over the branches.

any idea what this may be, and how to treat?
i will try to get a pic out tomorrow

really need that pic .. BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING...

first thing that crosses my mind.. is the possibility of you not recognizing a maturing bark ...

how big a pot is a 4 foot pine in??? .. and what is the media???

there is a conifer forum.. but most of those peeps hang here.. so no need to move the post ...

Yes, we need that pic.
Two things that come to mind that might be mis-ID'd as fungal are lichens and pine resin.

Hello Jane Sounds perplexing...you have got me thinking about my hoop pine, it has been dropping so many fronds, I am beginning to think mine has a problem too. I have noticed a lot of sooty mould on the plants under this tree, which suggests an insect is doing something. I will investigate further...look in my books. More likely wooly aphids, scale or adelgids

Hard to tell since photo is a little blurry..but could it be mealybugs? Mealybug sacs are fluffy white and take over trees, shrubs, etc. see if you can scrap off or use hose to wash away. Then google "mealybug control".

pine adelgid. I've been combating them here. I had a nursery inspector id them.

I'll link you to the least expensive product that will kill them. I use it as a foliar spray as directed on the label: 1.5 tsp. per gallon.
