I'd say it's an aroid, either a foliage-leafed anthurium or a philodendron but further than that I can't help, the stem is a bit hidden.

You might try posting a link over in the US garden-web form FOR aroids there might be more specialist folk there good luck with it.

This is Alocasia plumbea "Metallica", but also sometimes called Alocasia metallica, or Alocasia macrorrhizos "Metallica". I think the final judgement by those who name these things was Alocasia macrorrhizos "Metallica", but then, they often change their minds later anyway.

I guess down here, where the stalk doesn't sometimes die back in the winter, it might seem like a perennial, but Amaranth is really an annual. I've never seen it come back from the roots, but I've seen another plant sprout up right next to where last year's was, so it may seem like it does. Pusley has a long, deep root that is hell to dig out if you get a mature plant. They also seed like crazy.

Hi Melissa Chow, It may be a fungal or bacterial infection. In some cactus plants, I have seen these black spots spread through wounds.
