Help Identify - Brown/Yellow Dying Grass Killing My Lawn
Comments (10)"When all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail." I think that came out wrong. I was not hinting at anything you said. I was setting up for what I was about to say. My hammer is corn meal, which in the organic world is recognized as a fungal disease preventer and cure. The nail is your yellow grass. When I see the yellow grass, I assume it is a fungal problem. I can see where that could easily be misinterpreted. Sorry. YES, you have to wait until late summer to reseed. Why? Well you don't have to but if you want good results, wait. Seeding now will give you a yard full of crabgrass right away and later on, any grass that did germinate will die from the heat allowing the crabgrass to fully take over. If you want to fix that for the future, you could seed in some Kentucky bluegrass in the late summer. It will spread to fill in weak spots where fescues do not spread....See MoreYellow Elder - Leaves Spotty and Dying. Help Identify Problem?
Comments (1)It appears to me to be sooty mold usually caused by honey dew excreting insects such as scale or aphids. It is best to get rid of the insects causing the problem, usually a once a week spray for three weeks of ultrafine horticultural, or neem oil will do the job. Comments (5)Once a week in a pot isn't enough water. It's probably dried out and the water is just running thru. Set it in a saucer such that you can hold water about an inch deep around the bottom of the pot. That will allow the media to rewet by wicking up from the bottom. If it is from being too dry it should look better in a couple days. After it gets going again don't drown it by standing in water all the time. Let it dry out some between waterings but not so much that it droops again....See MorePlease help me identify my dying plant!
Comments (24)Yes, usually rot. You can just feel it and the color is very much telling too...but if unsure, take a branch and start cutting thinner slices from the bottom to see what the flesh looks like. If very soft, you may not be able to get clean cut. Use a blade, scissors or pruning shears will just squish it. If you find firm flesh, there is a chance that it could be rooted - few of the stems may have some viable parts. The longer, thicker stem on left seems to have yellow tip too -BUT very light color could be caused by plant being shaded too much for a while. I am assuming rot since the main stem was rotted, and being able to see only photos....See MoreBrittany Streeter
