I don't know how the squirrels get to it, but I'm going to replace it with a squirrel-proof feeder. I have one of those already and can get another one. I do not want to be feeding the squirrels or encouraging them in any way that I can avoid.

Agree with socks on 3rd, yellowing & soft leaves are most often waterlogged. The mix you have in that pot could be amended with lots more of sifted perlite or pumice, and you can even add some grit f similar size. The pot seems quite large at this stage, and therefore holds lots of soil - if it isn't draining well, there is your problem. First could be mechanical injury that is scabbed over - bites more likely by pests (perhaps some insects too, but snails leave slightly different pattern and also, quite often, a slimy trail - but check for anything as socks suggested). Or maybe something fell on it and scratch the leaf... 2nd plant -aloe or agave or something else? - I am not sure...that spots could have been also nibbled by pest and took longer to heal, or maybe bit of fungus got there - hard to tell for me. Watch if it does or doesn't spread. I see there was some damage to leaves on tips too, was it similar? And finally: yes, stuff happens outside (even inside)...probably impossible to have perfect plants, without any blemish whatsoever.

I've only seen gasteria twice, and I overpaid the second time because I didn't buy the first lol. I have found a couple neat aloes. I thought gasteria/aloe hybrid possibly because of the distichous (sp?) growth, but learned here that aloes often begin that way and begin to rotate as they mature. I have id'd the striata and still have a NoID. Have to wait until it's larger to ID I suppose. It doesn't seem that happy, I think I'm underwatering it and it wants more light. Those spines used to be bright red. Kd

It's popular because it only takes two to three applications to kill nearly everything, Kevin. And, there is evidence the active ingredient is absorbed by some plant roots as well. It isn't a simple oil and water solution either, the recommended formulation requires a surfactant like certain soaps so that they mix together better and can be applied more evenly instead of separate large globs of liquid. I haven't had to deal with pests on fuzzy or hairy succulents but I don't think I'll have problems using neem oil spray on those either. It certainly beats having to use systemic pesticides every time something alarming comes up. Donning the hazmat-esque wardrobe alone is a PITA. But I bet you've read that too lol
