O Tina I am so sorry, that is so sad its a terrible thing to lose a Pet you must be so upset
Try and look at it this way they are only on loan so it wonderful to have them even for a short time
You say that he used to sit on your shoulder and chatter to you, so your pet loved you it liked your company.
I am sure it did not want to leave you either, but it is in a beautiful place now so try and cheer up.
And look on the bright side and "I reckon it is missing you too" Regards......MM.

You will miss his antics but have great memories of him.

Know what you are feeling Tina,lovely friends aren,t they,when our Cockatiel went it left a gap,you certainly miss them,but they were put here for our interest and to get on with,so we do,greencroc.

I'm sorry too, he was beautiful. How long did you have him? If you feel like it, tell us about him, the things he liked to do, etc. It sometimes helps. We have two handraised cockatiels (bought at 6 weeks)- Buddy and Olly, and a budgie - Cheeky (I raised her from a 4 day old when her Mum died) and my son wants a bigger parrot also. They all have their own special personalities.

Oh Tina, what a shame! He looked like such a lovely, well cared for bird. My heart goes out to you in sympathy.

Thankyou for your kind words everyone...I had to tell my daughter today, he was originally hers but when she moved into a unit the neighbours complained about the noise(the only bad point about him) we are on a bit of land so it didn't matter so much here so we took him on. My brother and I made him a huge cage for daytime when I was at work but apart from that he was with me where ever I was, yes even the bathroom! He would put an eye on the drain hole and peer down chattering all the while saying he was a 'pretty cockie', he would climb into the cupboard while I put the towels away and would scream blue murder if I left whatever room we were in without him! He ruled the roost with our female dog, bit her a couple of times and would chase her out of the room...she stomped her foot at him once but never tried to hurt him. The male dog let him bit him on the nose twice before he snapped back and the bird never tried that again! He was like a two year old child...always pushing the boundaries...tell him 'no' and he would stop whatever he was trying to do, but turn your back and he would run over, grab the thing and run away with it...so cheeky!! He loved being in the garden, was a good onion weed bulb eater and only pulled up a few seedlings...ok...more than a few..but that was ok, I didn't mind. He was petrified of Whistling Hawks, white tailed black cockies and pelicans...he didn't believe me when I said he wasn't fishy enough for them!! But I guess looking up at them they are big scary shapes in the sky for a little guy like him. Each time a plane went over he would cock his head and follow it and I would repeat the word 'plane', I'm sure it wouldn't have been long and he would have said it. I got a shock one day when he was in the tree and I gave him some weeds to chew on and he said plain as day 'there you go', I guess I must have said that each time I gave him something...clever little man.... he would tell himself to 'hop on' before he climbed or jumped onto branches...that was his command to get on our hand...and he would stick that impressive top beak into...right into...my ear and I could hear his breath at the opening of my ear...that was a goosebump experience I can tell you!!! When he was on my shoulder he would stick his head down the top of my shirt and hide...and the best time of the day was when we came in of a night and he would sit on my knee for an hour or more with his head buried in my lap while I stroked him....he was incredibly affectionate and I miss him like crazy....I had just told a lady at our shop the other day that he was my retirement fund, he was going to be company for many years to come...he was far to young to die, he should have been here for another 40 years....we can only think that he was bitten by something, we have plenty of snakes and spiders, or that he ate something toxic...I never had him in while there was cooking going on as I knew that teflon fumes can kill them before you know it so those are...

O Tina what a beautiful story so many Happy Memories.
What a wonderful pet he was for you.
Of course you will miss him like crazy but dont forget like I said before.
He is going to miss you too. That was a very intelligent bird you had there.
I know it will be hard to get over but its nice to think back of all the good times you had together.

I'm so sorry for your loss, but you at least have some wonderful memories.

Yesterday, my little 13 year old terrier/poodle was in the front yard behind a pile of rubbish and I was over in the corner standing near the gate, ready to close it. I called to her to bring her inside. I had to call a couple of times because she is going a little deaf. Well, she heard me and came around the pile then stopped.
I called her again and she started coming towards me but there was something not quite right about the way she was moving.
I was calling to her and she was moving towards me then suddenly she just ...I don't know how to describe it....but she sort-of perked up and broke into a trot and ran the last few yards to me which is how she normally comes to me when I call.
I realized then, that, even at that short distance, she had not been able to see me. The vet told me a few months back that she had cataracts but this was the first time that I realized how much it was starting to affect her sight.
She is 13 years old and is becoming a senior citizen but it's hard to remember when she continues to act like a teenager.....usually a teenage delinquent!!
It was a nasty shock to the system when I had to face that fact.

Tina Imsorry that you lost your friend.You must feel robbed of all those years you were expecting to have together. Its even harder to lose a pet I think when it is unexpected and before their time.
Annie try waving your arms when you want her to come . Ive found that my 15 yo border collie can still see movement.

Yes, now that I know how much difficulty she is having, I'll have to do something like that to make it easier for her.

Annie, it might be more than you want to spend on an old dog, but if she is in good health, you can have the cataracts removed. Even one would be a help to her. They just remove the lens and don't replace it, which gives the dog a sort of fuzzy vision, but better than none. Check it out with your vet.
Tina, so sorry to hear of your loss. Cockies are incredibly intelligent creatures, and so full of character.

I am so sorry for your loss Tina. I have one of these birds. His name is Scruffy Head, name says it all, He is a real bugger as is the Norm. He mimmicks everything. He calls out to me (sounds just like my wife) and laughs at me when I come running. He worked out that people came running when the phone rang so he coppied that too. He chases the cats and loves chasing bare tooties. He cradles himself in your arm so you can scratch his belly. If you ignore him at night time he sings out to you. If you ignore him during the day he sings out to you, then he cries and finally shrieks with rage. I would hate to lose him and couldn't replace him, but I guess if I did want another pet it would be a fitting tribute to how good a pet he was. So, in time, give junior some consideration.
My late grandfather had a cat for many years that he loved dearly called "Bimbo". When the cat died he was shattered as he was more than just a pet he was his mate. After some years my sister gave him a kitten which he insisted she remove and for years after would quip "Don't forget to take your bloody cat". Truth be known, he became mates with "Bimbo" the second as with the first.

Tina I feel for you losing your mate, he has left a huge whole with all the antics he got up to, as everyone says you have good memories of him, I lost my canary I know they don't talk but his whistle was really wonderful, so load, my neighbour felt sad for me & bought a new one as a surprise he is lovely but has a very low whistle & now hasn't for weeks, the moral to this story is be very sure before you think of getting another one as they are all so different

Wicky aren't they just the cheekiest little monkey's!!??!! He would throw himself forward with wings spread and scream....of course I would run over and help him up thinking he was stuck....untill my daughter laughed and said he was fine and could get up himself!! I reckon he was cackling every time I did it! Certainly had me wrapped around his little toe that's for sure!
Ginny...yes I would think before getting another....as he was an inheritance and not a concious think about then go and get pet I probably wont get another....although on that note, if anything awful happened to hubby I think I would as he was such terrific company...and very helpful in the garden!!!
