As of Saturday 12th March 2005, I won't have access to the internet, at least not on a regular basis, for an unspecified, but definitely longish period. You'll all miss me, I'm sure!

Hi tomacco, Many of the people that object to its use provided references . I posted one that shows actual results that are counter to conventional wisdom. Wrong once means one can be wrong twice. I also doubt most of the people that use pesticides or herbicides even know what it is. Its easy to wipe out weeds. Just weed cloth it for a while. I even look forward to finding some weeds since they are great green manure and ferilizers. http://purecajunsunshine.blogspot.com/2008/08/how-to-make-free-fertilizer-from-weeds.html Everything is a chemical thus its absurd to lump together all chemicals as bad. Plants produce chemical defenses like alkaloids. What is stupid is mono culture and cultural practices that rely on a single measure and the quick kill. Even if round up were non-toxic it would simply breed weeds that will develop immunity to it and simply waste the resource. The best chemicals are the ones produced by plants that always gravitate toward suppression. I don't mind using pyrethins judiciously because it is something that follows this pattern where it knocks down and suppresses without killing and altering the attacking species. It is also a naturally occurring chemical that does break down in sunlight. Quick break down is essential to prevent dilution and attenuated exposure to build resistance.Thats probably why nature made it that way. We have one person with a spray bottle so we can have buildings full of lawyers and accountants doing nothing. They were spraying DDT around as if there was no consequence, same with agent orange. We have seen this attitude before of spray and pray and it nearly killed off the national symbol. Wow, thank you all for your input. I do understand the loss of a child, the painful battle against a disease and the difficulty of a remodel. They are not at all alike but they do bring up strong emotions. Having just fought for my adult sons life against lymphoma, I get the stress and angst. It was his friends we were hosting for Thanksgiving in our long delayed kitchen remodel. He wanted a family and friends Holiday. It is okay he will host, I will cook! it is not the setting that counts but the people we celebrate with. Coincidentally, the painter came today and all my appliances were delivered. Not sure how that will pan out but they are here! scoutfinch72- You may be behind me! I do have some electrical and my granite is fabricated, I think! LOL I knew I needed to pad the date then I got confidant. Bad move. I think I need to plan an after Thanksgiving before Christmas party! ATBC party. thanks for the support!

Woe is me - what is best way to cut china plates? None are working!

Greetings. I've had good success using the mosaic tool (nippers as I call them), which is designed for cutting and making stained glass mosaics. I just keep the wheels lubricated. I have cut some very thick plates, unlike china, with them easily without chipping the paint. Hope this helps.

You'll find much more info over on the Growing Tomatoes forum here but from what I can tell from the photo it looks like Gray Mold which is a treatable condition when treatment is started early enough. Looks like there is still lots of healthy growth on the plants so the choice of treating it or not is up to you. If so remove all the diseased foliage and remove it from the garden and begin a regular spraying program with the fungicide of choice. I prefer a copper-sulfur based one like Bonide makes but there are many options available. Dave

I'll still have access to the internet, either through friends, internet cafes, libraries etc. It just won't be daily. I'll switch my access to dial-up from ADSL. Not much point in paying for ADSL over this period. It doesn't unfortunately mean the move is imminent. I wish it was.
Ah well, Nettlerose is right. More time in the garden. Got to be a good thing!

Oh no! Who's going to keep the peace and say sensible things and make even the prickly newcomers feel welcome until they settle down and feel at home here and be normal (like us...)?

Dial up isn't that bad... I'm stuck on that... the wonky, out bush version too. That's why I go awol occasionally - the phone's probably out - but I still manage to get online often enough to be annoying. Dial up isn't exile so we'll be expecting to here from you regularly.

And don't you worry about the phone call cost from your dial up either. You don't need a phone line for voice calls. Folk's can email you. You just dial up and stay online all day!
