luvmy3afhounds it all depends on what you do with them to make them grow and bloom. You can do this and you are down south and have a longer growing season than some of us. Each gardener has their own ways and it's best to read how others do it and find your own path. The main this is you don't give up and learn!! Just enjoy!!

I think poor Daniella, had to wait a very long time for blooms. It being so late in the season I would be doubtful for any blooms this year, but it all depends on that all imortant Y. It will just depend on the plant. I had one that I overwintered in the garage and it bloomed late May, but it already had a Y. I have another that was in the garage that is just now blooming. I know that doesn't help much, but be patient it will come.

Don't get depressed. I've had cuttings that I've had to wait until the second or even third season for blooms. Seedlings too. I've never had blooms on a brug from seed the first year. Yes, it's definitely worth the wait!

Yes, its worth the wait. You will hate them a little after a while then you will get your first bloom and fall in love all over again, lol.

I feel your pain as I too am still waiting on blooms,just learn as much as you can and dont give up.They will bloom for you!

My Rosa Traum took 3 seasons to finally bloom...DON'T give up!!!!

I have waited 2yrs for Dbl Peach to bloom and it is deformed.. I have Painted Lady I have sent many cuttings of out.. Still waiting for mine to bloom... and come to think of it I haven't heard anyone else say anything about theirs???????? .LOL Some take longer than others.. SOOO which ones do you have???

If your plants are still in the ground - don't fertilize them any more this year- but next spring try this-
I came up with a receipe for a great natural fertilizer some years ago-
It's a fish emulsion- My hubby went fishing & cleaned his fish- so I took the scraps & put them in a 3 gal joint compound bucket, filled it to the top with water- put the lid on it, & put it out back- away from the house.... I wait at least 2-3 weeks, I then carefully open the lid- I then ladel a cool whip container of the stuff into another j.c. bucket, then fill that up with water....and there you have it! You can feed your Brugs this, (and anything else too!) It's super- you can water this in, & see growth in your plants in the next couple of days! I feed them once a week with this weak solution.. I water my brugs every day, sometimes 2x a day in summer... I always like to water the plant before applying this stuff, or apply it just before a rain.... If you don't have fish- manure works great too! I also put down aged horse manure mixed with sawdust bedding for a mulch - this also feeds my brugs & keeps them moist.. They grow happily, & bloom well... just wanted to encourage you with some helpful ideas for next years' season!

Thank you all for the encouragement and tips! The brug cuttings I got from Ebay in July were a Varigated Candida (has not put on any leaves), Snowbank that did not grow and just now died, Sanguinea...again just barely growing, Betty Marshall and Arborea. They were green cuttings half the diameter of a pencil. Once rooted I put them in plastic pots with lots of perlite and well draining soil. It took at least a month for them to start growing well and it was in the 90s-100s. I used liquid Miracle Grow 12-4-8 when I watered them as that was as close as I could get to what the Preissel & Ulrike book recommended. I kept them in the shade until they acclimated and then put them in the sun. I have checked the roots to see if they are potbound or rotted of which they are neither. I even mist them three or four times a week. I quit fertilizing a few weeks ago in preparation for the dormancy move to the garage in about 2 weeks. I just hope I don't lose them over the winter. I have really spent hour upon hours reading and researching how to grow these beauties. Hopefully next year they will do well for me and all this will be forgotten. Again...thank you all...you are so sweet and so helpful!!!

Oh Joyce, if I am not mistaken, varigated brugs are HARD and I am just now got me a snowbanks for NEXT season to see if I can grow it. Just as with the Sanguinea. Isn't that a tricky one to grow too?
I tell you, I will stick a cutting of Andrew in your package and you will have NO problem with getting blooms! He blooms ALL season long!

I understand your disappointment with your brugs. I think you did get some tricky varieties to grown. I got my first one in May and it bloomed for me the very first night. After that...nada...all summer. I babied it and was getting fed up with it by the end of Aug. and was ready to trash it. But in Sept. I notice a bud and it finally bloomed the weekend of Hurrican Ike. When I saw the blooms I told myself, "This is why I wanted this plant". Renew my desire to have brugs. Hey, it only had 2 blooms. Can you imagine a full flush? I have yet see that in person. I know they exist because I see pics of them all the time here. So, I will overwinter mine in the garage and try it again next year and hopefully I will get a flush of more than 2 blooms. Guess 2 blooms would be more of a 2-of-a-kind and not a full flush..lol Anyway when you see a bloom and smell the scent...you're hooked. Hang in there, be patience and you will experience the joy when you see your own brug in bloom.

It sounds like some of your cuttings weren't the best to start with. Green stems are notoriously difficult to root. I haven't found the variegated brugs any more difficult but some are very slow growing, especially Snowbank and Miner's Claim. You might want to forget about the Sanguinea. They hate heat. I really don't know why I keep trying to grow them. lol They do best in the SF Bay area and similar climates.

Congratulations on being able to root such small cuttings!Maybe you'll want to bring them into the house & place them in a sunny window to keep them growing through the winter- you've come a long way with them! Whoever sent them to you should've given you mature cuttings, as big around as your finger, at lest 6-8 inches long! I was pretty discouraged when I first started rooting green cuttings too- I never had the succcess rate that you did! I've learned alot through my dissapointments.. I've tried rooting cuttings again- this time they are mature cuttings with lenticles on their stems- (pre root nubbies) these turn into roots- I also dip my cuttings in Rootone, a rooting hormone that helps develop roots- I use this for everything I'm trying to start. Hang in there gal- you'll be so rewarded when you get that first bloom!

Alot of it depends on where the cutting was taken from and on the kind of brug it is, enviornment etc. Not on your ability to grow them. We all have had some that are PIA or took extra time. Sometimes I have taken to growing annual vines up the brugs just so something on there would bloom LOL!
