Repost. New Problem w/ DIY Bathroom Remodel- Cast Iron Drain
Comments (3)MommieLady, Wow. You have noooo idea how nice it is to read such an uplifting post right about now. Just noooo idea what it means. Thank you so very much! Ok, can you keep a secret? Shhhh...Just between me and you, k? The legs are brown resin with a screw hole drilled in the bottom. Son bought me the correct double-ended screws and it was like magic. Screw one end of double-ended into leg, the other end into bottom of vanity. Another shhhh, K? Searched for almost a year and couldn't find a 24" vanity that didn't take up too much depth space and with a usable drawer. Vanity is a re-purposed microwave cart. Didn't want to lose the utility drawer at the top (with sink hanging inside vanity) so had son reconfigure drawer and glides and put it at the bottom. (gotta have a place for that almighty make-up, doncha know *grin*) Hey, I kept telling everyone I was on a strict budget, now maybe they'll believe me. lol And you are so right, in the grand scheme of things, the quappy work the previous owners did to create a master bath, leaving us with the mess, is a small obsticle when I start to think of the bigger things that could go wrong in other areas of our life. Your post has given me the umph to keep "plugging along"---Thank youuuuu! In fact, I'm printing your post and I'm going to stick it where my new medicine cabinet 'should be' but isn't, yet. lol It will serve as my new "Keep Pluggin' Along" mantra each day from here on out. You're too kind. Amity P.S. The faux work, in all rooms where I couldn't afford the real stuff, was done by me. See? told ya I was on a strict budget. lol Again, many many thanks!...See Morenew home problems
Comments (3)Lets see, you signed on last Friday to tell us your tale of woe. You both have serious medical problems, you purchased a new home that sounds like its a case for Mike Holms, and you don't want to confront the builder because it's stressful. You don't seem to be able to do any of this work yourselves, so what would you like us to tell you? The tile grout sealer comes in a can or bottle and can be applied with an old toothbrush or a small paint brush. Ask the tile man what he would charge to seal the grout. The purpose of the sealer is to keep the grout from becoming dirty. I'm not sure I understand the shower problem. How are the wood floors being marked? What type of wood?...See MoreBacksplash woes - update
Comments (8)I am not sure of the square ft., math never was my strong suit. But the counter is about 15' long, and it's about 18" tall between the counter and the upper cabs. Tile will only go along 14' of the counter though, because we're stopping the backsplash where the cabinets stop and the overhang starts. The height of the backsplash of course, will be reduced where the window is over the sink. That part is around 7.5" tall from counter to underneath the window sill. Then we have a small "cubby" that is about 2' wide and the same 18" between the counter and the upper cabinet. When tile guy spoke to my GC - my GC asked how come he bid so low? His response was that he gave me the price as if he was going to do more work there (he also does tile floors, bathrooms, etc). My interpretation of that was that he is hoping to do more work for my GC - who just so happens to be a Home Depot sub-contractor. Maybe he is hoping to get some work for Home Depot? As far as what exactly it is, it's a 12x12 mosaic sheet with random sized tiles, and the decorative piece is about 10x4" on a mosaic sheet, with random sized rectangular tiles. It's a very simple design and should require minimum cutting (I think!) I should've added that we are paying direct for the tile. He is to supply the grout and sealer and labor. There's a pic of it using the link below - because I *still* can't seem to figure out how to embed pics. LOL I just took 3 pics of the tile and you can see all 3. Bill: Thanks for agreeing with our decision to get rid of tile gal - it means alot coming from you. Makes me feel even more confident that we made the right choice not to use her. ---Boxie Here is a link that might be useful: my backsplash tile...See MoreOh woe is me.. Comments (16)Wow, thank you all for your input. I do understand the loss of a child, the painful battle against a disease and the difficulty of a remodel. They are not at all alike but they do bring up strong emotions. Having just fought for my adult sons life against lymphoma, I get the stress and angst. It was his friends we were hosting for Thanksgiving in our long delayed kitchen remodel. He wanted a family and friends Holiday. It is okay he will host, I will cook! it is not the setting that counts but the people we celebrate with. Coincidentally, the painter came today and all my appliances were delivered. Not sure how that will pan out but they are here! scoutfinch72- You may be behind me! I do have some electrical and my granite is fabricated, I think! LOL I knew I needed to pad the date then I got confidant. Bad move. I think I need to plan an after Thanksgiving before Christmas party! ATBC party. thanks for the support!...See Morepupwhipped
