Super pics once again Michelle, such lovely roses.
And those gardens are so neat and right for the roses.
I seen a few different ones today too, spent the day at the Botanic gardens

I love the Botanic gardens here in Melbourne.
We havent been for a while --might be a good holiday event.
I like seeing the other plants as well. Im learning about lots...iris,hellebores,anything really.

Vera, I'm still waiting on my first set of true leaves on my snapdragon 'Black Prince' sprouts. I sowed them pretty late though. I also sowed 'Rembrandt' that I bought from Valueseeds, and they have been in the ground for over a month, and are about as big as your third year snaps. I'll have to make a note about the 'Green Goliath' broccoli. Last year, I ripped out my broccoli in mid-July when it still hadn't even started to form a head. This year, I'm trying two kinds, Di Ciccio and Calabrese. They're still pretty small, so not sure if I'll get any this year either. This is the coolest, wettest June we've had since I moved here, which my lettuce is loving! They're the size of small shrubs, LOL. Thanks for sharing your pictures! Bonnie

Thanks everyone, I am so happy to see some iris blooming, spring is here! Linda, it is easy to get addicted to iris, especially since they bloom before the daylilies really start. I can't really feel sad at iris season being over because the daylilies are under way. I just wish I had something to fill in the fall. I plan on having more mums this year, all I can think of to add any real color. Guess it's a good thing, I don't really need another addiction either :)

Rick, Glad you enjoyed the pics. Looking forward to seeing yours' soon! blue23rose, I can't remember if WHOOPEREE rebloomed last year or not? I will have to pay closer attention this year. Linda, I liked SHT so much last year, I ordered two more (red is my favorite color). I now have 3 nice little clumps of it. Dot, Scared of a turtle? LOL! Actually, my brother-in-law has a small scar on his cheek where a snapping turtle bit him. My husband was holding the turtle while he was riding his bike and his little brother was sitting up on the handlebars...when the snapping turtle reached out and grabbed his face and wouldn't let go...Ouch! There were just kids, and they tell that story at least once a year...so I know it made quite an impact on them. :-) daffodillady, I think a lot of box turtles are used to people because they are so long lived and were probably kept as pets at some point in their lifetime. gg, Box turtles will eat just about anything if they are hungry (even dog food). We've had about a dozen or so through the years when our son was growing up. We had a mating pair that had 4-6 little ones every year. They'd stay awhile and then wander off. Kathy

Thank you all - they are definitely very me whatever that is. I actually had more of a color scheme going originally but somehow they have multiplied into every color and I like it. I do have more pastels in the front and hotter colors as you move behind the deck. The house is not really that big but it's spread out and has a lot of volume. I really like things rather neat if you can imagine that with all this disorder and I like to see a repetition down the garden of something that is starring at the moment - daffodils in a similar tone in the spring, then the peonies and iris, then the daylilies, later it's asters and phlox. You know the funny thing about that CindySunshine name is I totally made it up as I was registering on gardenweb out of nothing - but I am definitely a sunshine girl always have loved summer and sunshine. If you look at that first picture with the front borders, I am standing on the driveway - if you look thru the daylilies (and BTW that is "Cherry Chapeau" that is the brilliant burst of color in the foreground) past the flowers around the lamppost and then the line of big trees, that's where the orchard is - you drive up through it as you go up toward the house. If you turn to your left that's where the butterfly garden is that I posted earlier. We built the house 20 years ago - we literally crawled thru the brush and hacked things down to find that there was a lovely spot up here to build. I was thrilled to find the combination of trees in the background, but sunny areas around the house for my gardens. The ground was really not very good at all - we built it up mostly with just work, compost, mulch, weeding, weeding, weeding, weeding - sometimes I feel like I've spent half my life weeding - LOL. Here's the vegie garden a couple weeks ago before the corn got so tall... Quick view of the pond - I took this several weeks ago (notice the same gazing ball that is now engulfed in stuff in those shots this morning - I was worried at the time about the pedestel it stood on and whether I should paint it - like why bother - LOL. And finally behind the deck - I took this in the spring right after the japanese maples leafed out - my easiest least maintenance area of the garden - all I do is put a handful of fertilizer around them in the spring. They don't even ever get watered, hostas do great. Thank you all. :)

Yes it was a wonderful day Michelle but hot 35 and humid though not to bad under some of the trees.
Yes I have been to Melb gardens heaps of times having lived there for 45yrs.
When I went down May/June to buy my roses and see the Family I went there and got some great pics
Of the Autumn leaves on the trees, yes it a lovely place all Gardens are dont you think.

I have an Abraham Darby (new for me this year) and I have had a bloom which was fabulous.There are more buds now and I am looking forward to seeing them grow.

Hi Michelle - how lovely, and how TIMELY! Hubbie and I depart for Tasmania on Sunday. I posted a question here a couple of months ago about where to visit, and I can't wait to get there now. And guess what? I think I have that room with the outdoor balcony you mention! We are staying at Lenna's as well, and I happened to mention that I love roses when I rang to make the booking. The lovely lady there said she had picked a ground floor room opening out onto the rose garden for me. If everyone in Tassie is that thoughtful, we are in for a terrific trip ...

I had a wonderful time at Lenna.
The people are very friendly and welcoming and the rooms are fabulous.
I stayed an extra night therefore extending my stay. It was not possible to stay in the same room, so they offered to move my bags and gave me an upgrade!!!!with views over the water.
The food is excellent.I am sure you will have a lovely stay and please let us know how you get on.
Would love to know what you think of Lenna and if you see any particular gardens.

Here is a pic of Lenna that is one of my favourites. If you look carefully ,there is a table and chairs so you can sit overlooking the hotel outside on the hallway.I sat there a lot-reading ,having a coffee etc.

I went to Tassie about a month ago and the roses were unbelievable. If you love Australia and roses, you gotta get to Hobart. I'll try and post some pics in the images gallery forum.

Here I am, back from Tassie. What a stunning place. I visited the National Rose Garden at Woolmers and absolutely recommend it to anyone else who is planning a trip down south. They have lots of large beds with well-marked plantings of lots of different kinds of roses. I came back with a list of so many roses I now want to plant ... All around Tasmania, especially the north, there are mass plantings of roses, especially thick groundcovers. There was one pink one which I saw absolutely everywhere - I think it may have been Our Rosy Carpet, or perhaps the Carpet Rose kind. (If anyone knows for sure, please let me know!) The only disappointment was the Royal Botanical Gardens in Hobart, where I discovered they have ripped out their formal rose garden completely. But I did visit Pete Cundall's vegie patch which was fun. All in all, a gardener's paradise.

Good to hear how it went, femmersady I noticed many rose gardens in private residences as well. I didnt get to Woolmers and the day I planned to go the Botanical Gardens the rain bucketed down.Sounds as though I didnt miss anything! Woolmers is on the list for next time. I saw a lot of what we call" Flower carpet"perhaps thats what you reffering to. Did you enjoy staying at Lenna in Hobart? cheers Michelle
