About me: My name is Deb and I'm a keen novice gardener based in Newcastle, NSW, Australia. I say novice because, as the old saying goes, the more you learn, the more you realise there is you DON'T know! But I love the process.
I think I got the gardening gene from my late mother. She was known around the neighbourhood for her splendid garden. Directions to our house always included the line: "Just look for the beautiful garden ..." I hope someone says that about my garden one day.
To that end, my most patient and generous husband built a garden for me in the front yard of our home - who needs lawn? It includes a formal rose bed and several other beds which are are planted in a semi-formal cottage style.
The back yard belongs to our 2 labradors, but I am in the process of landscaping it too - this one all in natives. I want it to be a sanctuary for native birds (trust me, labs don't bother them. They are just too lazy). I'm looking forward to using this website and forums to learn lots more about natives.
My best gardening tip? Look at what they grow on median strips and along the roadside in your area. That's what I call a low-maintenance plant.

My zone is: Newcastle, NSW
