Visiting New Zealand...where should I visit?

I'm visiting NZ from the U.S next week, and would like recommendations on rose gardens to visit. I will be based in the Hamilton area for 3 weeks, but will also be in and out of the Titirangi area. I know that Hamilton Gardens has a rose garden (and that I just missed a rose show), but please let me know any other hidden treasures! Old roses, new ones, minis,climbers.....I love them all! LOL

Since it was cloudy and cool I went early this morning. It is a nice short walk mostly wooded along a stream on the nature trail with the second half dry brush, sunny and a hill. Ground squirrels running around and Blackheaded Grosbeaks. Lots of benches and even couple of picnic tables. There is a playground nearby for the kids. The salvia garden had just a few in bloom. Ca fuschia was blooming also. I didn't check out the rare fruit tree area. I want to go back when the Clevelandii sage is blooming cuz there are tons of those. Oh I saw several callistemon citrinus 'little john' about 3 feet tall and 5 feet in diameter...thought I'd mention that since on this forum we've discussed the size it gets. It is a nice little hidden garden, take a lunch, but go early not a lot of parking with the playground and baseball field nearby.

it's like any other display - -clothing with all the 'right' pieces & accessories that you may not want/to be able/interested to buy... -furniture, again with all the right accessories... -you buy just one or very few-and it doesn't look the same! But it's great for ideas/inspiration, and definitely helps the sales. And you just may be able to replicate over time...

You should go to Hampton Park.Also walk around downtown and look into yards and talk to whoever is working in them. Sometimes they invite you in.You can e-mail me directly and I will give you my phone # and you can come and see our garden. Not to much now a little early in the season. If staying a little might be able to talk to some people about seeing some more

Check the newspapers as well as the local tourism headquarters and chamber of commerce. Two years ago in the spring we happened to be there when a "secret garden" walking tour was going on in the French Quarter. Unbelievable!! Private gardens tucked away that you would never normally see. Another place that would require a car is Long View Gardens which is in Metarie which is a connected suburb to N.O. It would take about 20 - 30 minutes to get to. Beautiful gardens focused around a mansion. Metarie also has several streets with new and older restored homes that have beautiful landscaping (Huge Spanish Oaks, etc). If you are in to garden architecture and accessories look up in the yellow pages for architectural salvage yards. They have great unique items that would fit into any garden. The one I'm remembering is The Armodillo Salvage (or something like that) It would require a car also. Have fun.
