The First Red Frangipani Flower.

About time my Tropicals have started to flower, after a drop of rain everything here seems to burst into bloom.

Only a couple of buds are opened but plenty more there waiting..........................Cheers..MM.

neighbour gave it to me last year.

The frangipani is a beautiful colour and so is the burgandy day lily.

They are all beautiful, love the Burgundy day lily.

Isn't it wonderful when the frangipanni bloom, perfume just seems to float round all over the garden.
MM we went to the markets today and there were daylillies everywhere, but one fellow was there with a trailer load of different ones, i bought one called Anastasi, it is lovely .

Julia, no your memory is correct. Riot On the Kindergarden Bus does twist in all sorts of unusual shapes. I was surprised to see this FFO had more standard form but some of them are curving back and I know that the next flowers will be more curving. Guess it needs to just get stated LOL! I don't know about taller. I was just noticing that many of my daylilies have shorter scapes this year and I don't know why. Certainly wasn't lack of rain and they haven't been moved in a long time. Andrea and Nancy- Thanks. That The Fairy rose has small blooms and starts blooming somewhat later than the usual June Flush but it is a trooper. Once it starts it is good to go until frost. It loves to sprawl so the hill off the patio is a great spot for it.

Rocks Cry Out and Red Rampage are my favorites here. Although I love the other one too. Your roses are beautiful. I have Red Alerts also (not as many as you do). Your's look very nice in front of the fence. Mine are on the border of the woods and they get lost in the background. I need to move them this fall where they will show up better. Great pictures! In its first year in the ground, the Frangipani branch still has the programing from the parent tree in its cells and has already prepared for a new seasons flowering. If you let this happen it will pull energy and nutrients for flowering out of the reserves from within the cutting, as it has not got sufficient roots. This will weaken and delay its ability too develop a selfsufficient root system. This could explain no flowers in the second season that happened with Amelie above. Developing sufficient roots can take at least a season or two, but after that you will have an excellent plant. Grub, it may flower first season, but if it was me I would knock off any flower buds as early as possible in its first year. Feed with Seasol or any other root stimulant to encourage root development. That way you will get a much better plant in a few short years. It is a bit like us when we have go down with the dreaded lurgy. We need a bit of time and feeding up to get our energy back, so we can push that wheelbarrow.

Hi Sapphy, Frangipanis need FULL SUN to have really beautiful green glossy growth with lots of flowering. So firstly move that pot now to wherever it will catch the most sun on your balcony. At the start of spring (late autumn in QLD) re pot with fresh potting mix, top with mulch and water thoroughly - decorative stones look nice as a mulch layer for pots like this. Make sure your pot is draining water freely out the bottom as Frangipanis hate too much water / having wet feet. I mix some water storage crystals and fertiliser in my yearly pottings and find that (along with the mulch topping) any rainwater they catch is all they ever need. If your plant can't catch the rain where it is, just water when the soil is starting to dry out - a good soaking once a week would be plenty. Then prune branches back to desired length to shape your plant and you will have lovely new growth each spring / summer - this will also create more branching, which means more flowers. From the photos you have provided I would prune back each branch by a 1/2 this first time and then just take off a 1/3 or the tips for subsequent years to get the shape you desire. I would not re pot / prune now as the leaves it already has are due to drop off soon enough for winter anyway (in SEQ) and pruning this late may cause fungal issues - so hold off till late August. You have some lovely daylilly's and I like the frangipanni I only have the native one I tried others but they rot I don't think anyone has any luck with them here

I can just smell the Frangipanni MM so lovely,those two day lil,s brilliant colours and the old gerbera,s always a winner,had a good season myself.Nice pics MM,greencroc.

Bev if I can grow one of your Hollyhocks here, you can grow one of my Frangipani there.
You most likely watered it too much, let me know if you want some sticks to try again..

Annie I got it in feb 2001 from one of the Sunday markets around here it stayed in a pot for over a year, but it did flower the january after. Its about 6-7ft tall now. It will probably flower this year, as sticks of the fruit salad one I planted earlier this year have buds on already its only about 18ins tall.
