Oh, my -- A rose lover tries to get some useful information from other rose folk, only to be hearing about needed rain in California and a mythological definition for rain. Aren't there any other websites where you folks might "bless" others with your non-sequitarian comments? My heart does go out to the Californians along with a financial contribution of support for those in need. And certainly, mythology is quite fascinating. Everything has its place. Perhaps, there is a weather web or a mythology web where you can chat with others who are interested. All that I really wanted to know was about roses that still bloom in rain for future reference. Anyone else out there who might offer some useful info? CJ

I don't really like planting the bulb lilies in the fall, don't know why, just have always planted in the spring. But I probably will be buying more lily bulbs and planting this fall as I only got so far in the spring and then stopped because I could not stand the idea of planting any more bulbs or daylilies either. Heres another place with fabulous lily bulbs but the smallest amount they sell is 25. Plus you can only plant them in the spring, not the fall because they are kept in a semi frozen state and will be growing upon planting. Won't do for the Fall. So beautiful, beautiful, beautiful!I love Momoka (HT of perfection!), Ispahan, Jacques Cartier, and yes, your Climbing America brings all the memories why I love this rose so much. Yes, it can sometimes BS, and yes, in zone 5 it is fragile and probably won't ever climb, but I would never be without this rose either.

serenasyh, I have a real guilt complex when it comes to America. I started my garden a number of years ago because my wife was ashamed of her yard. I was on the road all day for business, had a herd of horses to tend when I got home, and something had to give. So anyway, knowing virtually nothing about gardening, I began trying to teach myself as I went along. Roses, through no fault of their own, were inserted in various places along the way that they probably didn't belong. Unfortunately, I did this to America twice. The first time I planted her on the north side of an arbor over a walkway with a Joseph's Coat on the south. The first couple of years they were stunning together.Then I had to rescue a Mexican Orange so I planted it between the arbor and a fence with what I thought was plenty of room. Yikes, the MO loved it at the expense of America. She now had two strikes :-( I then planted another one by my pond pergola where two maturing climbers (wisteria and star jasmine)became much more enamoured with the conditions than she. Given the 3rd time charm thang, I might yet attempt to do her right, Lord knows those gorgeous blooms deserve a more proper place to display themselves.
