Some of my New Roses.

A couple of my new roses have opened today although they look nice its disapointing when they dont turn out the colour you expect, this one below is not a thing like the flowering plant I seen in the Rose garden Nursery.

Very nice MM. the first one is lovely, Your Seduction is a lot pinker than mine which is very nice,it is good to see you are getting your roses nice again not burnt like you had before which is heartbreaking

Well they look great, though I know what you mean when the floweres aren't the colour you expect. Still I'd be happy to have anyone of them in my yard.

Jay, we just had temps of 28 here and there was some damage, but not bad. Since all of your roses are in pots, it would be best to try to move them all as close to the house as possible and them put a sheet or blanket over them. The heat from the apartment should help keep them warm. I think 28 is the magic number. And then it's the number of hours that it stays at or below that number. Also just leaves are ok. The most damage I have is on very new soft canes. the cells get damaged from the cold and then the plant can't send moisture and nutrients to the end of the cane and it shrivels up.

Kay, I just wanted to say that if you've changed your mind about a rose (like Tawny Tiger) you can always contact the company and change your order, either telling them you want to delete that rose or substitute another it its place. I've sometimes changed my order several times, which I don't like to do, but so often in the planning stages I find that I've made some silly mistake and some roses just won't work. That's quite an impressive list you have and I hope you have great success with them. I saw Hadley once and was quite impressed with it even though I'm not generally a lover of red roses. I had Lilac Dawn myself and planted it in the wrong place the first time and even after transplanting to what I thought was a better spot it didn't do well for me, perhaps because of the heat here, but I thought the flowers were lovely. Please keep us informed about how your roses do for you. It's always exciting to see someone's new rose garden develop, and of course we'll be expecting pictures. Ingrid

That hype is specifically because Applause contains genes not indigenous to rosa. They initially marketed it in Japan where the aesthetic appreciates manipulation of Nature. Think bonsai trees; melons and fruit grown in lucite boxes to alter their shape to cubes, etc. That aesthetic also values the gift and the honor it is meant to bestow based upon the cost of the gift. You and I may be honored and pleased by the gift of a vase of flowers from the giver's garden. That aesthetic is more likely to feel more honored knowing each stem of the rose cost the giver $35 (Applause's initial sale price in Asia). Not that the bloom is actually "blue", but it does represent many years of genetic manipulation to alter the color of the initial rose from red to the mauve color it expresses. In that light, it is presented as "the blue rose", which is how it is accepted by that aesthetic. I agree the photos of Blue Bayou does appear rather "blue" in the pastel range. Some images of Rhapsody in Blue appear quite "blue" in the darker range. For the whole organism, its health, ease of growth and ability to flower in all types of weather here, Blue for You still wins, hands down in my book. I need to get hold of Blue Bayou. I'm out early to knock the Japanese beetles into a Mason jar filled with soapy water. I repeat the hunt in late afternoon but at that time of day they seem to have faster reflexes and many escape.. Nothing but the best for my JB's; they get Ivory Liquid. Seems to work best if I just squirt enough to create a good layer on the surface of the water. I don't mix the soap in. Brittanys are SUCH cool dogs. Loved seeing the photos of yours. And you are off to a spectacular start with your roses. Your husband should be very impressed!

Jan I think time of day has a lot to do with colour, the flowers on the other side are almost white.
Actually a lot of them are very pale as you would know they get that way as they age.
The weather is not as hot as that terrible week we had a while back, actually the weather is ideal at present.
Thanks Barbara, but Iam very disapointed with three of the new roses, never mind. Cheers...MM.

I love the pics especially the one of Princess Elizabeth.What a stunning rose.
Seduction is looking good too.
I once bought a rose that I was disappointed in with the colour so I gave it away.I bought it under pressure from the nursery guy and was never happy with it.
BTW my Radox Bouquet has flowered and the blooms,while they are lovely are quite small.and much paler than I expected.Still its the first year so it may look better eventually.

As a new rose grower I wasn't aware that you could be disppointed and get something different than what you paid for. I bought a very expensive rose at the Toowoomba carnival of flowers that is very disappointing. I am learning!
