This site is crap full of adds

I tried to make a comeback to this forum, I have wonderful rose info to share but I just can't stand the adds. I think I'll quit this forum yet again and does anybody know of a better one without all the add crap ? I don't want to hear about the need for sponsors etc, it's just some goon(s) sitting on his date making money from freedom loving rose enthusiasts like us.

You need MOZILLA-you can block all the ads.:)

I have Mozilla as well and only get 1 ad.
You may need to update your software/firewalls/antispam stuff.
It would be interesting to hear what you have to share.

Through the wisdom of a friend I figured out what the issue with this compost is. TOO MUCH SALT! Since this is purely made from the city wide organics and we consume too much salt and others like me will only put in items that are not healthy for either our worm bins or composters, the result is too much salty foods. That is why after about a year once the salt has diluted the soil is good. It's not acidic because if it was then my Hydrangea would be blue in colour and it is pink. The worms really don't like salt and it also acts like a preserver so even though it has lots of organic pieces like twigs it wont break down that quickly until the salt leaches away. Obviously some of you will get great compost from the city but most of us will find really lousy material, and are best to make your own or sometimes buy the expensive bagged stuff(which has never given me any problems before) So I have a stunted watermelon plant as a result of this and a Zuchinni plant that is dying also. But not too bad for this year. By next year the results should improve.

China's manufacturing of eyeglasses-related products is mainly focused in four major geographic districts which are Shenzhen and Dongguan of Guangdong province, Xiamen of Fujian province, Wenzhou of Zhejiang province and Danyang of Jiangsu province respectively. These four districts produce about 90% of whole volume of China's eyeglasses industry. Shenzhen and Dongguan are located at southern China's Guangdong province. These two cities are geographically close to Hong Kong, resulting in most of the manufacturers in Shenzhen and Dongguan being invested by HK eyeglasses companies. For this reason, Shenzhen and Dongguan are now the base for making middle- to high-end eyeglasses in China with most of the glasses labelled with world's most fames designers' logo. Shenzhen only has about 500 manufacturers with annual capacity of 200 million pairs of frames, lenses and sunglasses, and 95% of the products are exported to 130 countries, and 70% of European market share is from Shenzhen. Xiamen is located in China's southeastern Fujian province. Xiamen is just the opposite side of the Taiwan Strait which is very close to Taiwan, therefore most the Xiamen glasses enterprises are Taiwan-mainland joint vetures. Different from other districts in China, Xiamen mainly focuses on the production and marketing of high-end sunglasses. Wenzhou is in eastern China's Zhejiang province, the famous "Land of Overseas Chinese". Wenzhou's optical companies focus on manufacturing middle- to low-end frames and sunglasses. Its market of sunglasses in the world's market is about 40%. Wenzhou has about 1000 manufacturers in the area of frames, sunglasses and other accessories. Danyang is in Jiangsu province which is near to Shanghai and Zhejiang province. This is a place where mostly the factories are engaged in the making of all types of middle- to low-end lenses. While Danyang also has some enterprises manufacturing frames, but the quality of the frames is of low end. The annual lenses producing capacity of Danyang is 150-200 million pairs which occupies about 70% of China's total volume and 50% of the whole world's. 2. China's eyeglasses indutry is export-oriented. In 2007, China exported 2.465 billion pairs of eyeglasses frames, lenese and sunglasses, with a total value of 3.344 billion US dollars. Unfortunately the average export price is only USD1.36 per pair. About 60% of China's total production of eyeglasses-related goods is for export, which has a world's low-end market share of 80%. In total China has about 4000 manufacturers in the eyeglasses and relative areas. 3. China is the most populous nation in the world. Out of her 1.35 billion population, about 300 million need some kind of corrective eyeglasses. we had a concrete yard with a foot high layer of soil in a raised bed and we raised rocket lettuce basil spinach and chard in there. if you have about two or three foot you could try anything just buy some seeds and see how they fair seeds are fairly cheap and if nothing comes of it theres little lost. just top up whats already there with a good layer of compost and sprikle your seeds on top. wildflowers native to your area will grow almost anywhere they can find footing even out of walls and many are shade loving you could try collecting seeds from wildflowers along shaded woods that take your fancy or if your permitted taking the plants and a good chunk of soil with them and replanting beside your trees. beans will also grow in shade and climbers will creep up the trees and find light something like honeysuckle or jasmine so long as they have enough food to feed the roots while they are climbing up. you may get less of a crop of flowers or fruit from anything in shade like kale will grow much smaller but it will still grow.

I wouldn't worry about it, john. Ever taken your car to a fast 10 minuet oil change that costs $12.00 ? That is the labour. By the time you get your car back your bill is $60.00. Friend of mine went to a $19.99 oil change place. His bill was $80.00. Free tire rotation ? Well after they tell you " you haven't rotated your tires in time and your belts have taken a " set " or you need front end parts. You now need new tires plus if you don't let us fix your front end we will pull your car off the road." ( yes they can do that up here.) Your rotation isn't free. Don't go to a place that gives you a " FREE " 25 point inspection because they find 25 things to fix. Come on john, you should know better and how the system works. I spent the better of my life working for the big three. We HAD to go to school. The dealership payed for it and we got payed 8 hours straight time. I was in school almost every 30 days. Sometime for a week at a time. G.M. was the worse. They have been known to make a production change in the same car 4 times in one year. With G.M. we were in school sometimes twice a month. I still to this day say to most people with a problem car " Take it to your dealer ". I know for a fact that the dealer training you guys have down there is VERY QUESTIONABLE if any. After looking at most of the posts on this site and the trouble people have with their cars and dealers i feel sorry for your car owners. How do i know ? Myself and my partner in a G.M. dealership's trim stall have gone many times to the depot to pick up a car shipped to us from the U.S. My Cadillac came from a Texas dealer. Couldn't keep the engine light off. My Buick came from North Dakota and i got a car from California, all related problems. Actually my partner had already done 26 out of country cars before i started with this dealer. We were the best i guess. This was 1988. We were " trimmers " payed straight time. I think were got $18.75 per hour. Not sure but it sounds right. That was unheard of in 1988 in a dealership. Flat rate was only $15.00 at that time. ( i think ). Our labour rate now is $119.95 per hour and our flat rate is $36.00 per hour. That means our specailized Trimmers make approximately $40.00 per hour straight time. The good ones can make more. Every dealer payes different. We all run to the highest paying dealer. Bottom line John, don't worry about it. 90 percent of people will go to a $12.00 oil change twice. First time and last time when they get their bill.

I have never seen an add. Mybe thats because my husband who controls our server hates adds to. Computer genious husband's are quite handy.

If you have rose info to share, then share.
Stop complaining about ads. If you feel you cant make any useful contributions because of a few ads, dont bother.

I find the Garden Web is very slow with loading & the process we go through to post a follow up is a pain but I have solved the problem I have a card game going now & I bring it up & play it till I see the post ready to look at worth a try plus ignore the adds

This forum is now nothing but a burden on anyone using dialup. Hardly worth the waiting around for all the crap to load.

I have a couple of windows opened and flit between the two while I wait. The ads sure slow it down heaps and curbs the desire to look at more than a couple of messages near the top of the list.

My "Roses in Oz" is running at fossilised tortoise speed too.Have removed spyware/adware but made no difference.

I'm not sure I understand all the less than pleasant comments on this thread. I think waldon's comment was perfectly fair. He/she is probably not reading this thread anyway.
There was a change in ownership about a year ago Roses in Oz, and things have gone down hill since then. Even the people that paid up membership seem to complain about it. It is a pity because many of us are regulars and enjoy the discussions. A lot will eventually give up altogether, and sadly it is often those who are best able to give good advice to more inexperienced gardeners.

I am aware of a couple of other forums, unrelated to this one, where people left in droves because of too many ads and slow speed.It must be terrible if you are on dialup.

I agree, this place used to be such a pleasure - I'd flit in and out all the time - and that was when we had dial-up. Nowadays it's hard work and we've got satellite! I don't visit as often as I used to.

Our roses in oz has continued to slow down every day .I visited my mother today who's just bought a computer and has ADSL broadband.It was marginally faster but it was at a peak usage time.

Hi All,
If you use Norton Internet Security and Adaware and update and scan daily, you can get most of your speed back. The more you use the web the more time the others have to get in on your act.So if you just do a few at a time or go on at off peak time, you will get a quicker service, just great for us shift workers.The site sponsers have the use of your time as well if they didn't the internet would not work, some one has to pay for the use of the net. If you have free internet, good luck, but there is no such thing as a free lunch. If you find one please let us all know.

I now only go on every other day as it is too time consuming & I find it so dissapointing as it used to be so great I am on dial up but the speed I have is slow but it always was & I didn't have the problems that we all seem to cop now

I have dial up my son put Outpost firewall on, and apart from having to log in every time I look in there are no adds or pop ups.

I have mozilla and all the Norton software loaded here and am on broadband. We have an ad block and all the add ons.
As a result no ads and normal speed.
I havent had a slow speed at all.
The trouble is you need to update your software on a regular basis and we have good tech who comes and regularly checks everything and puts in whats required.
this is, of course, expensive.
We run 4 networked PCs here at home and about 8 at work and our tech looks after them all.
We are lucky in that regard.
