Unidentified plant

Hi guys!
I'm new to this whole forum thing and to gardening i'm more a vegetable gardener! so please excuse any "stupid" questions.

I recently purchased a house with a lot of rocks in the front yard, they look beautiful all built up and what not. Although, there is this one plant/vine/creeper, that is so massive that it is growing crazy and everywhere.

The other weekend i thought i would attempt to pull it out but noticed the roots were crazy and not in ONE spot and that there were HEAPS of them.

If someone could identify the "thing" in the picture i have provided and can help me with ways to remove it i would be so so thankful!

It's growing onto my footpath and i just don't enjoy it. My poor plants are becoming smothered in it.

It's "common ivy" - Hedera helix. It IS difficult to remove because it forms roots at nodes that cling on to rocks and also root into the soil. However you can get rid of it with persistance pulling/scraping it off, or you can use a weedkiller if you don't mind chemicals.

Is it an artificial aquarium plant? Is it supposed to be a single plant or a clump of plants? There appear to be 3 different leaf shapes there.

I shear mine in half in June so they don't flop over in September. Those are planted in very good soil. A better way to treat them is to plant them in poor sunny soil with a minimum amount of water. I have one plant in a shallow pot in the sun and it does fine without shearing or water. Mike

It is in the UK and it's Salix caprea. A common self sown tree which is essentially a large weed in a garden situation.
