Thank you for the lovely blooms. Bird of paradise we only see as cut flowers here.
Wednesday morning we are promised -3Â°C. Definitely not bird of paradise weather.

Thank you Inga,
This plant is over 40 years old and flowers most of the year.It is lovely as it can stand drought and flood and doesnt use much water.I have never fed it and the blooms last abt 3 weeks as a cut flower.We use them in the church and makea nice show with complementary flowers.

Fleur - these double leaves are working great. I had a vision of stacking 3 or 4 up using your post idea (cup of concrete ) with a receiving sleeve (empty cup making a hole) . With your friend's idea of the plumbing.... seems a person could arrange a stackable combination of leaves that would look good and avoid the difficulty of supporting separate leaves that pour into each other... No problem. I just noticed spotted toehees about 2 months ago. My 4 year old likes "talking" to them. I had to find a site that had the sound they make to figure out what they were. plantloverkat, Thank you for helping. At this point, I am waiting for more blooms. I left the hip on from the first bloom to develop in case that helps. The rose looked more cupped and pink than Pierre from the HMF photos. Time will tell. Another beside Cupid might be Belle Portugaise. I'd like to figure it out before it goes in the ground. As the rose develops I'll keep posting. The foliage is quite distinctive.

No catherinet- I saw the hawk eat the bird food seed and suet. The brown area he is standing on is a pile of no mess bird seed with suet chunks. I trust my eyes but since it was so unusual I wanted to double check. The only thing the hawk was killing that morning was the bird seed.

Yes tough as old boots the Strelitzia reginae are Chas, they certainly look good in a vase
Too many in this area and they certainly thrive on neglect.
