Believe it or not, there are afew Siberians in that area. If you look to the right of the very first picture you will see one blooming behind the daylilies and in front of the rock wall. I only have about 6 different Siberians in this garden area. The rest are in other areas of the garden. I had planted some out front last year, but this year added to it and planted even more. Its just that the so called clumps are so small (I am lucky if they are four fans) that they are difficult to notice.

Gorgeous Rita!!! I am really looking forward to seeing your daylilies. I have heard that they do well on a slope. I have two slopes that I would love to cover with daylilies. But I was afraid they might be too steep. Although now that I see your slope, I think the grade looks similar to mine. My slope maybe two rows higher though. I think I am going to give it a go. Rita, do you have any thoughts? How steep is too steep for daylilies? Carrie

Jeep461 Confederate Rose is a plant that likes water. If you can find a neighbor who has that tree any branch that is cut off will if just stuck into a bucket of water will take root. Strip off all the leaves and put a nice stick in water and keep in the shade you will see white nubs form soon then the root will not take very long before they are big enough to put into the ground. You need to keep it watered until it gets established. They can get over 20' tall and quite wide. They can be cut back to the ground each year to help control their size and shape The trunk can get to 12" across. I had mine cut back to 3' last fall and it it over 8' tall now. They bloom in the fall when the weather starts to cool down. In the summer months they will lose leaves when the weather is hot and dry but will come back in the fall with cooler weather and moisture. When I got my first start is was a 3' stick. Put this into the ground and it just sat there until we had a hurricane which brought lots of rain which knocked it over and had to be replanted. From all that rain it took off and ended up being about 8' tall and full of blooms in October, it has never slowed down since then so I have nice shade for my back window. I know this is the BOP site but you mentioned Confederate Rose so I wanted to throw this in for you. Thanks

yep, I thought they were all Bird of Paradise and I thought it odd that the big plant had no blooms and teh little plants did. I had heard that it can take 4 years for a BOP to bloom, we are new to this house and the plants were already here, but the little ones dont look like they would be 4 yrs old. Then I noticed that the blooms did not have the blue that a Bird of Paradise should have, but was thinking maybe that is a mature part of the flower and I just have to give it time. Then I ran across something called a False Bird of Paradise, They look very similar to a BOP, but are smaller and don't get the blue part of the flower. I started to think maybe none of the plants were a real BOP, but I found a pic from last year and the big plant has the blue and also a real BOP has a thick green bottom petal. I that now that I know why the little plants are in bloom, but the big plant is not is b/c a real BOP just does not bloom until later in the year. These are all outdoor in the ground plants, not in a pot so when I was weeding the flower bed and chopped a bunch of roots... I hope I did not hurt the real BOP plant and that is why it's not blooming.... crossing my fingers it is ok and just been some more time.
