If it is your winter now, you are in the southern hemisphere Im guessing...are you in south africa, south america, or south australia? your zone says 'SA'.... winter time is the dormant season for most plumeria; try to keep your cuttings warm inside/in a greenhouse and certainly on a heat mat if you have one. Rooting over the winter months can prove difficult but is not impossible. do not water them at all until they have leaves, if your soil continues to be moist it may induce rot on the cutting so keep a close watch on the lowest part of the stem if they had large leaves when you planted them and the leaves were not removed, the leaves can drain the cutting through transpiration but the fluid cannot be replaced without adequate roots...leading to dehydration and likely the cause of your cuttings drooping pictures can speak volumes and may show something you may not know is important..can you post a pic or two? also, how long have they been rooting? did you callous them before planting? what is your soil medium composed of? temps hi/low inside?

This wasn't windy enough to be scary... not in Palm Beach anyway. I wonder how this thread's originator, Caroles Jungle, made out, over on the west coast. I am sure that she got the brunt of this storm, and I have been thinking about her. Over here, I am glad that I pulled leaves. 2 days of, even the winds we had (maybe 40 mph), are very rough on plants. Just ask my bananas and hibiscus! We did not board up for this one. Normally I use plywood over every opening. I am now looking at a kevlar screen material that can stand 270 mph impacts. The great thing about this material, is that it can be installed from just under the roof line, down to the ground, a few feet from the house. I would do this around my Florida room, which is all windows, and the front entrance to the house. I would actually be able to move all my potted plants against the house, behind the screen. No more dragging everything to the garage, where things inevitably get damaged, because they are packed so tight. And because it is a screen, it lets light in. For now, let's keep in mind that alot of folks are still in the path of this storm. Strengthening is possible as it gets out into the Atlantic. Hope all stay safe. Bob

Hi Verandah, Greathawks and brissi555......I just happened to check the Australian Forum for tropical plants, is anyone still cultivate Plumerias/Frangipani ? I was actually in Brisbane for a month, visiting one of my sister and her families, she lives in the area of Chermside! Did any of you buy Plumerias at one of your local nurseries or from a website ? I'll be curious to know because I have 10 of them, here in the San Francisco peninsula. Well...good to know you....maybe you can check the GardenWeb Forums/Plumeria !! Hopefully I will find you in the near future, Annamaria

wow...thanks for your reply... how tall were they before they started to flower? whereabouts in nsw are you? also, how do you 'treat' the seeds before you actually plant them? there is some technique where you seed to semi-soak the seeds or something before you can actually plant them in soil... so, you don't need the perlite/cactus mix then? ordinary soil will do it???
