Yep, similar thing happened to me with a biggish order of perennials. The box must have been shaken so severely that, despite precautionary packaging around the pots, there was more potting mix in the enclosing box than in the individual pots. I lost about half the plants of that order and the trouble is one does tend to blame the plant supplier even though rationally one knows Australia Post is probably the only culprit. The good news is that all the rest of my mail orders which have come through AP have arrived on time and been fine. I hope your roses hit the ground full of energy despite the nine day lapse and the breakages, Mistymorn.

As all the prepared holes for the climbers, ramblers, and ground covers are full of water.
But I will be able to plant the Standards in the new raised bed Hubby and I made two months ago.

That must have been worrying MM when they were so late & then came damaged, I hope they all grow ok we have the rain also it is wonderful all the farmers are walking round with big smiles, I have been buying bare rooted roses as well but I am potting them up till spring as new growth can't cope with our frosts on the new bare rooted ones

hi mistymorn sorry about your roses ,why dont you tell the place where you ordered them from as I bet they dont know what they had done to them, if its the nursery I think you mentioned once, they are usually really good and would appreciate being told,

Hi Lorraine yes the Nursery knows about it, actually they had rung me a few times after trying to find out from the Victorian end what had happened to the roses during those nine days while I rang the Queensland ones.

I am in the process of planting them all now having done the climbers, ramblers, and bush ones, this afternoon its the Standards and the ground covers. I have pruned all the broken stems off so they should be Ok if not then I have to let the Nursery know, yes they are lovely people, and many thanks for your concern....MM.

What a shame. The nursery would be appalled and hopefully they might consider an alternate delivery facility.
I hope the roses stand up to all this. What a pity as you were so excited about it.
I would be very interested in a follow up when they start to bloom to see how they go.

Hi Michelle and Thanks: I finally finished planting them, and after two days soaking in buckets of water all of then except the two Westerland climbers have growth coming through. So far so good so I should know by the end of the week if those two are ok maybe they are a later flowering one........MM

Parcels travel in wire crates called ULD's they are then picked up and tipped on to a conveyor belt so they can travel through the system to be sorted.Before you "bag" Australia Post consider this.Who would send a plant in a pot though AP in the first place.No matter how well its wrapped there is no guarantee that it won't be tipped over in transit.Australia Post doesn't have a "fragile" service.
Perhaps a more specialist plant courier could have been used.I am really glad however that your parcel appears(well the contents anyway) to have arrived okay.
If the driver who delivered your parcel was one of my charges I would have kicked his arse for suggesting how the parcel had been damaged.Then if that was the case kick the arse of the forklift driver who did it.Australia Post does have a wine transport service but I guess wine bottles in styrene are a little less able to move around in their wrappers. I apologise if that sounded like a rant.I obviously work for AP when I am not farming,and I over the years have become more and more dismayed at how we fail to meet some peoples expectations.SOme times the end user has unreal expectations because they don't understand how stuff is moved around.
Even though your parcel contents appear to be okay maybe talk to your local delivery manager he may be able to answer your questions/concerns about your parcel and any others you may wish to receive.I sincerely hope your bad luck turns in to good.

I'm just back from Ayr and was sad to hear your bad news but have been gladdened ( is that a word ?) to hear that all is looking so much brighter now and that you have had such good rain, your subsoil should be well and truly soaked so that will help them along.
Will be lovely to see some pictures when they are all in full flower and growth.

I have just re read my post and hope that no one took any offence at it.It does seem like i got on my high horse there.
I sometimes find that companies,and not just nurseries, don't invest in suitable packaging for their products.
I have often seen important documents slide out of their packaging because someone has put their faith in the adhesive strip .Then you spend time scouring the conveyor belt for the envelope or the rest of the contents.
You would be surprised at what goes on.
I picked a 70 thousand dollar bank cheque off the ground in the Mail centre once ,it had come out of an envelope.It found its way to the DLO where it was reunited with the rightful owner.If letters could talk the things they could tell.........

Hi Michelle and Many Thanks, the roses are going along fine with lots of new leaves on every one.
But I must say a half of the Standards especially Seduction are flying away
Also Brass Band, Joy of Life, and Camp David, the other five are a bit slower.
And the two climbing Westerlands are laging behind a bit though Crepuscule has more shoots.

I have sprayed with Lime Sulpher Humidity was 97% yesterday morning so I hope these
dont get the dreaded B.S. and I have fed them all with Organic life so they should be OK now.
I have planted them in the backyard this time so I can see the from the kitchen and dining areas.
And they are getting the afternoon shade as I had no success with them in full sun last season.
