How wonderful to hear from all of you. OK we have made a start slowly but surely to get the Ozzie Rose forums going properly. Really great to see our older and newer posters coming back. This site has only gone down because of the old system, but it seems to be working well now, so please try posting some of your photos. I know it is pruning time, but what roses are you choosing to put in and let us see some photos of the ones you planted last year. Wonderful to hear our old posters news about moving houses and the way the gardens are growing. Today I have commenced pruning ours. We are down from over 150 to just 25 in the new house, but they are all coming on nicely. It took a real long time to get us back on the Oz forums to this point so please so your best to post photos. If you don't know how, I'll try to help. Usually Mistymorn does the hard work but as she is in UK for the time being (envy envy) I will try to fill in for her. Much love to you all and a huge welcome back.

Hi all went out on the weekend to do some weeding - I actually have weeds!!!!! anyway, found this tunnel in the lawn (yes green lawn)and followed it to my Abraham Darby and the rotter ate all the roots to my lovely hugh rose all I have left is a very healthy looking top with nothing underneath - no doubt in the next few days it would have died leaving me wondering what happened. I buried whar was left deep and pruned and planted those so fingers crossed. Time for the rat bait boxes to go out - will need to look at the other roses - anyone heard of this before????

No, what a damn pity, especially such a lovley rose as Abraham. Rats must be hungry!

My Safrano is just going into its second bloom (first one started in Feb), here in coastal No CA. It is growing in more than partial shade, under a giant old oak tree. I love it - it is disease free, and so graceful. I inherited it with our house 20 years ago, and didn't know what it was until an old rose expert told me. If you like this color of gentle buff/yellow, you should also try the old tea "Anna Olivier" (rare but available from Vintage Gardens). It is the same color (except when the weather occasionally makes it more yellow or more pink), with red brick on the back of the petals. More gracefull bud and bloom shape, if you can imagine. Can get very large here, but you can always keep it in bounds by pruning, as its growth is slow enough to keep up with.

Agreed with all the above. Trail, I'm thinking of you often, as we all are; even if the stressful time has passed, please write and let us know. Hang in there. OH--my husband has a reply about your proposed Canada trip -- I'm going to read it tonight and if it makes sense to me, I'll send it : )

She has a sense of truly being herself, can express what she knows and feels and take action when need be......." I have always thought that what my Dad used to say is true: "We get too soon old, and too late smart." At this point in my life I feel that I have so much to offer as far as insight and advice, since I've really been there and done that... Yet, who wants to listen !?! I read this somewhere and had to laugh out loud: " Unsolicited advice is never welcomed with the enthusiasm that we imagine it will be." LOL Knowing this axiom does not stop me from generously slathering my good thoughts about! ;0)

This just broke my heart. Our youngest boy was 9 and 6 years younger than his older brothers and he just adored them. He was a batboy for their teams thru high school. I have so many sweet photos of him with his teams, and usually, he had no regulation headgear, just a helmet from the Reds. It would never had protected his little head. My prayers are for this sweet boy and his family and also for the player responsible.

The mongrels do that here.
the best thing to protect anything they fancy is to get some of that bird wire netting from Bunnings.. the stiff stuff not the limp one. It's only $1 a metre and you only need that.
Wrap it round anything they want to chew/dig... they HATE trying to dig and get their paws caught.
Works a treat and also snares snakes!
