I didn't see the program but I have ordered one from Treloars. I'm thinking of planting it where it will grow over an archway leading to my rose garden, so I hope it's as beautiful as they say.
The rose is also featured in this month's Better Homes and Gardens magazine as part of their rose offer, so they might also show it on the program in the next few weeks.
Are you going to order one?

Hi wattle, I too have just seen it in the BH&G mag, and was planning on getting a couple, in order to grow over an arch perhaps, or along a north facing fence, or...dunno, I just think they look gorgeous! lol

Don't know where the BH&G rose offer get their roses from, but am also waiting on a couple of rose catalogues to arrive, to see if they have it as well. Either way, I think I'll order at least two!

Just a word of warning from my super-friendly local nursery - bless them, they are wonderful people who give very honest advice. Apparently this is a lovely rose BUT it is NOT related to the original Pierre at all: it is NOT a sport. It is from the same breeders but a lot of the recent advertising has been a bit misleading. Because it isn't a sport, you cannot guarantee that it will have the same growth characteristics/disease resistance etc as the original Pierre.

That being said, my nurseryman still reckons it is looking like it will be a terrific rose and I might just get one myself. But it is nice to be told the truth for once!

If it was a sport you couldn't guarantee that it had the same growth characteristics. In fact often the sport has quite a different disposition.
It IS from the same breeders, and most of the blurn I have seen has been quite honest in the fact that it is not related. I am sure the breeders know full well why PdeR is popular and have gone to a lot of trouble to produce a red rose with similar growth habits to PdeR. They will have grown hundreds or thousands of seedlings to find something showing the required characteristics, rather than finding a single sport and selling it on the back of PdeR.
I think that would recommend it to me more than if it were simply a red sport.

I agree, and yes, all the blurb I've read and researched has stated that it is bred to LOOK like a red version of PdeR, not that it IS a red version.

The info also states it to have similar growth traits to PdeR, that being its major selling point (and hoping that it will obviously appeal to those of us who already have the former, and want another great rose)

I do have to say though, that its scent is much stronger than PdeR, but a very lovely fragrance

I notice that Tesselaars has it listed in their Winter catalogue for $19.50. Interestingly, they don't mention anything about it being a climber!

aahh but BH&G magazine has it for $15 plus $9.95 P&H (and yes, saw it in the Tesselars catalogue, but I have other ordering plans for that order form lol!)

Better to buy your roses from rose growers than bulb growers, methinks!

I noticed that Garden Express also have Red Pierre for $15.... If it is as good as the regular Pierre I'll be happy.

Why not support the rose growers, and rose specialists and buy it from one of them? You are far more likely to get useful information and you are more likely to get a correctly labelled, healthy, well grown plant.
