Has anyone made Pierre Hermé's Ispahan Loaf Cake?

Dorie Greenspan's new book has an unusual Pierre Hermé cake recipe, highly flavored with rose. It has both rose syrup and rose extract. And it's pink. I loved the idea of making this for my granddaughter (she likes pink), for her second birthday. She's only 18 months old but I'm planning ahead! I thought it would be naturally pink, and liked that idea. But actually the rose syrup has red food color in it, so I'm a little leery, but at least I'll make it for me as a test.
Maybe I'll even try to make buttercream roses, thinking of that thread about challenges.
Have you made the Ispahan Loaf Cake? Do you use rose syrup for anything else? Does the syrup taste artificial? I love Upton's Rose Congou tea, so I do like rose flavor in food.
