Well done MM! Sometimes you just have to follow your gut instinct even if it does mean breaking some of the 'rules'. It looks so fantastic with the backdrop of that beautiful bougainvillea.

Thanks Dee. No rules here this is Queensland BTW the bougainvillea are magnificent as always no wonder they are my favourite plant.... Gosh I am glad I took that pic Saturday morning as late that afternoon my lovely neighbour came in begging for a few tiny flowers for their dining table for today a big family dinner so I gave her two clusters from the both of them as she fell in love with those tiny pink buds. Also gave her seven different sprays of bougs all different colours starting with white, pale pink, dark pink, orange, lilac and purple she left with a lovely smile on her face which was a delight to see.... Bonica is so beautiful, mine was the first rose I bought and it has flowered all over the very hot summer we have had here and not a black spot on it.
Sadly there is no perfume or I would call it the perfect rose.

Very good Misty, glad they have come through well. Bonica is such a cheerful dependable little rose don't you think ?
I have got a 3' standard growing in a large pot and it nearly always has some flower on it. Now, because I haven't done any deadheading for a while, (no time it seems) its covered in all these bonny little red hips. I used to have some of the bushes growing out the farm, as sort shrub/climbers and they formed pretty little hedge growing and covering a fairly boring wire fence.
I love the opulence of your bougainvillea, such vivid and exhuberent flowering.
The garden centers over here have got them in in flower at the moment; quite an exciting array of colours available now. I was sorely tempted the last time I was in Bunnings , but managed to resist. Just. Although it certainly gets hot enough here in the summer, I think the savage frosts that we get in winter would be the end of them. Do you think they would survive once my trees and shrubs get up and there is a bit more shelter ??

I only had one growing "Scarlet O Hara " Here I have 23. Why don't you try one of the dwarf ones in a pot

And will stay that way till about July, you can always move them undercover

That's a good excuse Rosalie.. I was in Bunnings today buying that wide black flex pipe for connection to under the house to the shower outlet so the grey water can go on the plants and what did I pass another stand of Roses. Lucky I did not have a trolley as I was sorely tempted to grab this "Ice Parfait" but put it back as I don't know how it will go on shampoo or bubble bath water but if it carked it I could always say Rosalie said .... Congrats the rose looks wonderful..very healthy and beautiful blooms.
I followed your wise words and moved three roses during late summer and they have really taken off now they are in a better position.
I think the main thing is too keep the rootball as intact as possible.Water a lot and lots of TLC.
I have also moved gardenias,camellias and azaleas ..all are now doing really well.

If I had left them they would be very sick by now!
I guess its a learning process.
When I first started planting ,I wasnt familiar with the soil conditions etc.Now I have learnt what the plant requires and have it down pat!(most of the time)
I moved 2 Violinas back into containers about a month ago and they are looking better.
It was a dodgy spot so I thought I would give it a go and it wasnt any good.
You learn by experience...now I have gardenias and a camellia in that area and they are doing well.
I also think trusting the "gut instinct" works well too.

Actually I think the rose roots can take a little bit of mishap when transplanting - I've transplanted two where in my impatience I didn't quite take out all of the roots. They're a bit hardier than you think. Didn't even trim off the damaged roots. I've whacked them in pots until I decide what to do with them. I wanted other roses in their spot. No, I didn't replace the soil as you are supposed to either. I gather you can cosset them or not. They don't read the instruction manuals.

Since then I have dug up and transplanted 16 more of my roses to a new bed and they are all doing very well with heaps of new growth on them, can hardly wait for that first bud to open but it will be a while yet... Cheers...MM.

I moved a dozen of my roses. Doesn't seem to have done them any harm either
