You need to let the foliage ripen (flop and turn brown) before digging them. I have much better luck with digging the bulbs and replanting them where I want them than I do with summer storage. I have tried storing them in a cool dark place with plenty of air circulation, etc., but inevitably I lose probably 20 percent of them. When I re-locate them, virtually all will survive, and most will bloom the first spring. I will watch this post, to see if someone has a better way for summer storage.

When I lived in the Dallas area, my very best naturalizer was 'Quail'. The clumps got bigger every year, and they bloomed for a longer period of time than any other daffodil that I grew. Here is a link that might be useful: daffodil 'Quail'

If the bulbs are still viable (firm; no signs of soft spots or rot), probably just some foliage later in the season. If you allow the foliage to grow and ripen properly and the protect the containers over winter from freezing, then it is likely you will see normal daffodil behavior - including flowers - next spring
