Glad you think so Dee Many Thanks.

Last week I dug up and transplanted sixteen of my Roses
To a new bed in the front garden and it all started becuse I bought one rose.
And I though it would be very lonesome by itself so now it has fifteen new friends.

It will never end Hey thats what Gardening is all about....Cheers...MM.

Could be pretty bad in some areas. I've been on the north side of all this warmth (I hit 42F yesterday, while Des Moines/Omaha were both near 70F). Today looks closer to 50F. My low temp has been down to -11F and one day i hit 2F for a high...but other then a couple of "cold" snaps (really nothing for this area), its been a mild winter. Snowfall totals to date are around 17 or 18 inches...normal for a year is around 40.

Jeff, As far as the wintersweets are concerned, I purchased 3 and put them in 3 totally different spots because I could not find any information for them at the time. One died, one is 1ft high and hasn't bloomed, and one is 7ft tall loaded down with flowers. The tall one with flowers is in almost full sun. The other two were in morning sun or dappled sun areas. And even though I knew this, I bought another wintersweet that was supposed to be evergreen and put it in a morning sun area... They are very easily rooted, so you could root the one you have and put the new plants in sunnier locations. Longriver, Do you know which wintersweet that is? The flowers are much more yellow than the ones produced on my wintersweet. The flowers I am getting are more of a pale creamy color, almost transparent yellow. Longriver, The mahonias are evergreen shrubs. There are many different kinds. I have a few of them rooted if you would like to try them. The flowers are followed by powdery blue berries that are very beautiful. Jeff you are probably right, the mahonias are probably not getting enough sun. Drats, I already moved them once and don't want to do it again. The sweet olives at my house are not even thinking of blooming! It has been too cold. But the daphne buds are starting to show color! One more plant I just thought of, sarcococca, is in bud and will bloom pretty soon. The sarcococcas are a family of evergreen shrubs that have tiny fragrant white flowers in the winter. The fragrance is light, but the mature shrubs are nice and full and look good even without flowers. Longriver, As many camellias as you have, I bet that winter is just as exciting as summer! I bet your land is delightful this time of year.

Amazing Flowers as usual David!! Few of mine are just now slowly getting some buds...much slower than yours and nowhere as many. I enjoy seeing everyone's beautiful flowers and hoya plant pictures as well...I'm always at a loss for words after seeing them! Thanks for posting and looking forward to the next batch...you certainly have a HUGE collection. So many different ones most I've never seen or heard of before.

You are so right MM...."it will never end". I have been in this house (and garden) for nearly 35 years and I feel like I'm starting all over again. Partly because of unknown weeds that I innocently planted and am now gradually getting rid of, partly because of changing needs and ideas and also because some things just don't last forever !!

Good luck with your new roses! I am looking forward to some pictures of them in the next flowering season.

Thanks Dee Gosh some of them are shooting new leaves already.
So best I get in today and do the Annual prune so I can spray them all with lime Sulphur.

I am looking forward to seeing them too especially Renae the new one.
I named it *Rosalie's Rose* after a wonderful friend in WA who had bought and planted
Jude The Obscure for me over there as I cannot grow it here and she calls it Mary Anne's Rose
That's a long time to be in one house Dee lots of memories.
I have left my trademark in a few gardens in OZ
I often wonder what these gardens look like now ...Cheers..MM

Sometimes it better not to know MM. I've known many lovely gardens sold on to new owners that just never look the same again. You are better off with your own memories of them I think. A lot of people buy a house because of a lovely garden but have absolutely no idea that it takes work to keep it that way.
