new game....find the rose

I was looking at this really sad house, totally neglected and unloved when I caught a little splash of red in the middle of the "paddock" they call a front yard.

Can you see it?

Kristi, just thought I should mention the Kordes perfume-fest Parole, aka Buxom Beauty. Was introduced to the USA in 2008, so it may have gone under your radar. Apart from its names (Jailbait/Dumpling - yeah, good work there, Kordes Marketing Dept), this deep cerise pink rose is pretty near perfect - no spray requirements, beautiful high-centred flowers with substantial petals (HUGE blooms in cooler weather), nicely productive with a fragrance that is really intoxicating and waft-y, richly sweet but sophisticated. No cold cream or myrrh. And it cuts like a dream. I'm up to six of these. They're my battery hens for vase filling. Just sayin'.

Pretty petals...500 roses! I have en entire back yard that doesn't have a single flower/shrub, etc., ..but I'm pacing myself. :-) Rose_crazy - the soil is all that but there are still chunks of that deep red sticky clay. I can't recall any place that has yellow roses down here....but I have seen other bush roses (nothing this pretty I don't think!) Let's hope they adapt and I can keep the happy! Diane...thank you! The yellow/purple combo has become my favorite and my son had no idea when he bought the Get Mees. He just knew I needed plants and his "new tradition" he said was going to be to buy perennials each year. (I like that tradition!) Your Get Mees look great. Gorgeous pictures everyone and you've gotten great advice from people closer to your zone. Just a heads-up that you want to be a bit careful where you buy your Reine des Violettes, since there are two versions of the rose circulating other that name. I started with "Not Reine des Violettes", which is both thorny and a once-bloomer - so Ingrid gets the satisfaction of being right even in her temporary "error". The color is lovely and it climbs, and it has the peppery foliage smell, but no rebloom ever on mine. I have now ordered the real RdV from Burlington, who I trust to know that she has the real one, and it's thornless and should be a repeat bloomer. I'm sure other people would have the real one, but do ask if repeat bloom matters to you. Cynthia

How soon to plant a new rose in the spot of a RRD infected rose?

Hello Lin Most of what I have read says to wait about 1-2 months before planting another rose in that spot. That info is corroborated by roserosette.org (which has USDA and other backing) here: https://roserosette.org/control/ I share your RRD woes and experience. I had a rose Mohana, that I didn’t care so much about, contract RRD. I pruned the infected cane down to the base. Not only did the RRD re-surface on Mohana, but it also infected one of my prized big climbers next to it, Lavender Crush. A hard lesson learned, but now whenever I see the 1st sight of RRD, I remove the entire plant. Many locals ask me about rose advice , RRD and otherwise, and I unfailing advise them to remove the entire plant ASAP. It’s advice that no one wants to hear and few will follow, unfortunately. I’ve not seen any RRD so far this season in my garden...fingers crossed.

Can just see you tiptoeing up to the front door, shovel in hand and asking the dear soul who just can't look after the paddock any more if you could PLEASE take the dear little rose home to look after for her.

I am like your sister, or was now I am more game to collect , always have the clippers in the car. I hope the house is empty.

I'm sure Annie WON'T take the rose. It is, after all, theft. Perhaps it was planted by some young person who has no idea of how to garden, but fancied a little rose bush and will be most distraught if it is taken?
