new game....find the rose

I was looking at this really sad house, totally neglected and unloved when I caught a little splash of red in the middle of the "paddock" they call a front yard.

Can you see it?

Pretty petals...500 roses! I have en entire back yard that doesn't have a single flower/shrub, etc., ..but I'm pacing myself. :-) Rose_crazy - the soil is all that but there are still chunks of that deep red sticky clay. I can't recall any place that has yellow roses down here....but I have seen other bush roses (nothing this pretty I don't think!) Let's hope they adapt and I can keep the happy! Diane...thank you! The yellow/purple combo has become my favorite and my son had no idea when he bought the Get Mees. He just knew I needed plants and his "new tradition" he said was going to be to buy perennials each year. (I like that tradition!) Your Get Mees look great. Can I legally use a patented rose to hybridize a new rose?

YES, but with one exception. Any genetically modified plant containing a patented gene may not be used without the permission of the patent owner. Remember the "blue rose", Applause? The GMO blue rose from Suntory's Cal Gene Pacific? It contains a gene they inserted into it and patented as "My Little Blue Gene". It also contains a marker which can be tested for in other rose samples. If you obtain a florist blossom of Applause and you use it to create another rose without buying the rights to use it from Suntory, they can determine whether your creation contains their patented gene. If it does, they have the necessary evidence to sue you for patent infringement. Would it be worth their time to do it? Want to take the chance and find out? That is the one exception to the "yes" answer.

I have no inside information. However, when I have talked to Matt he has asked what I'm looking for so he can have it in mind when he makes the selections for the following year. So if you have something specific or even a general category you could call and ask him and then he may have it in mind when selecting the new ones.

@Jo (Manitoba-Zone 3) Good Evening, Todays Morden Blush ( I have 2 Morden Blush roses & one has little more shade/other in sun all day.80- 90F this week. The other rose in 90F today & afternoon shade has retained its color better….It just looks a little porcelain today…. Roses like ideal temps of 70sF-76F more or kess. Mine get burnt in 80F abd above because its humid and feels much hottier. My roses grow green canes fast in 80F , & bloom but wikt faster. Your summer os probably very lovely and mild weatger so-your roses will be lighter colored but keep their blooms a long time ! What’s your temps now?

Can just see you tiptoeing up to the front door, shovel in hand and asking the dear soul who just can't look after the paddock any more if you could PLEASE take the dear little rose home to look after for her.

I'm sure Annie WON'T take the rose. It is, after all, theft. Perhaps it was planted by some young person who has no idea of how to garden, but fancied a little rose bush and will be most distraught if it is taken?
