Hi Tomas, in regards the Vriesea,it is not Ensiformis x fosteriana, that cross was done by the late Lou Forrest,here in Australia, i knew the man very well and grew some seed from that cross and they where nearly all identical and i think it may be the green form of Vr.fosteriana allthough normally it shows a bit more colour under the leaves; but if its grown shady then that could account for it,Vr.fost, is quite variable as a species and if x self you willget a number of variants,I did once have the green form and would like to get it again,in any case i would be inclined to label the plant as such and put a ?behind the name,part of the problem also is that people like me may cross 2 totally different forms of Vr.fost, together and finish up with a different clone alltogether but it is still a Vr.fosteriana,

I have had no problems with rooting. When I repotted the old one to put it in this pot is has formed some roots. It was mounted when I got it. The newer one was in a pot when I got it. The new one in flower came from a heated greenhouse so it's clock may be off. The plants and pups are about the same size so I guess they are the same age. So I am not sure that it is normal Vriesea flowering time over here. I have an Amoena from that same greenhouse in bud right now, also some Neo's that came from there, are at it 6 months earlier than my other neos. Since they look happy to me and Japie has had trouble keeping them alive in winter I decided to keep them where they are for now. Indoors at a nice constant temperature and no rain. Japie, do yours get much sun? Here'a pic of the side that gets the most sun and has the pups. A bit hard to make out the pups due to camouflage. (Or is that glam-o-flage?) Sander

Hi Paul , Sometimes the spike will go brown and shrivel but the pods will hang on just the same ,after 8 months they should be getting close ,if the pods are still shiny and greenish ? bit soon to harvest but if they are dull and brown ? you can harvest them ,split the pods open and pull out the seed ,put in a container and the seed should fluff up in a day or so ,and then just sow it up ,seed that does not fluff up is often indicative of poor germination , Must say your "Uluru Sunset" seems a bit green ,it does need a lot of light ( just short of full sun actually ) Hope your seed grows well for you ,i do know what you will get ,but let you find out ,you wont be dissapointed .
