Bottom one looks like beehive ginger.

I think no. 2 might be yew berries.

The first one looks a bit like our native gloxinia just the flower.
Or maybe something in the columnea family.

A is NOT a Gesneria, Gloxinia, or any other relative of Columnea.

I think no. 1 is Colquhounia coccinea and the yew berries (no. 2) is Taxus baccota (English yew).

Dee does it again! Colquhounia coccinea it is! A very uncommon shrub in Australia, very beautiful but a rather ungainly habit of growth.

The yew berries, though, were on a plant purchased as a golden cultivar of T. cuspidata, the Japanese Yew. But I would think the berries are virtually identical to those of English Yew.

Does Colquhounia coccinea have a common name on Aus? I found reference to "Himalayan Mint Shrub", and would like to know if this is what it is known as here, thanks

I have never heard of a common name for Colquhounia. I suppose "Himalayan Mint Shrub" is as good as any, though really it tells you nothing more than it's a shrub, it's in the mint family, and it comes from the Himalayas. Boring!

If Dee or plantsplus don't manage to post a mystery flower in the next few days, I suggest someone else should have a go. It's an activity that seems to revive interest in this forum. I remember 2-3 years ago we had the same sort of thing quite regularly.

Ashke, I have seen the name 'Himalayan mint shrub' used in the U.S.A. but never here. Mind you, it is fairly uncommon here so who knows.

Plantsplus, I would be more than happy for you to have the next turn. One day I must learn how to post photos...talk about computer dummies! lol.
