Just a tip, I found using fresh cut trees no good for garden edgings as they went rotten
They would also be food for the termites you got any up your way.
Maybe painted with sump oil would be ok if it doesnt taint the soil

he has never even bothered to try and add a scent to any of the smelling posts around our regular walks, just sniffs and smiles, and when he pees he drops his pelvis down and pees on the ground - no cocking of the leg, nothing.

Well now, I could rent out our Chiwawa (Never can spell that word]FoxTerrier cross Reggie,to teach him how.
Reggie seems to be a gallon tank on little legs when it comes to marking out his territory, especially after another dog has visited us.

My dog Nugget doesn't cock his leg either and he isn't desexed (fathered three beautiful litters so far). He is the second male that I have had that don't cock their legs. Many males don't unless they see another dog do it, apparently it is quite common. I'm glad they don't as it can kill young trees. It doesn't mean they aren't manly - my Nugget has certainly proven he is a man :)

Yes GH is spot on our First Rhodesian Ridgeback Sharka used to squat kind of.
Till we started showing him and he finally caught on when he seen other dogs in the ring doing it.
Our Male chihuahua Pepe was the same, some need to socialise to get the idea....Cheers..MM.

none of the trees knocked down in the jungle behind me had white ants and none have arrived since I spread the huge load of wood chip earlier this year.

as for rotting - well they'll look good for a while and by the time they start to rot I'm sure that She Who Must Be Obeyed will have changed her garden plan ;-)

The type of tree was (here we go - paradisi trying to get a name for a tree) was a paper bark or a type of melaleuca - they're the remnant forest from the Dicky Beach area -
When I first started visiting Dicky Beach 20 years ago there was about 20 hectares of the local scraggley trees - loose papery bark was the main distinctive feature, I was told they were melaleucas, Now there are only about a dozen trees left within walking distance of my place and the local council has no intention of protecting any of them.
