It's really hard to say if your Louise will grow - I suspect that unless you watered over the winter, the little plant might have suffered from being too dry. But where there is green cane, there is hope. Actually, planting the "crown" deep in your zone is a good thing. You don't say if your Louise Odier is own root or grafted, but if grafted that point where the root stock and the named variety are joined should be well underground - several inches. If own root, I still plant a few inches deeper than it was in the pot. That way, there is at least a bit of cane protected by the soil over winter. My own L.O. has been enduring being cut back severely each spring (sometimes right to the ground) for over a decade now, and she still makes a beautiful plant in my garden by summer. But my zone 4 is quite different than your CO zone 5. We get reliable snow cover and rarely have any drought periods. You don't say if you do or not, but I hope you are mulching heavily to retain what moisture you can. Just keep your little Louise watered well and see what she does. Don't fertilize her either just yet since you've basically uprooted and replanted her. I wish you great good luck with her this year!

Biff, welcome, and I hope you keep on posting. This is rose lovers' home. I came to some conclusions about 'Louise Odier' this year after not pruning her over the winter, being so busy I never got around to it. I found she does need her canes shortened if she's to be grown as a shrub without support: right now her long canes and their blooms are on the ground. I think cutting them back to 4'-5' would be about right. Your way of training her looks good. LO also needs old canes cut out to encourage new ones to come along, as everybody but me probably already knew. I may do some belated pruning once spring flowering is over to remove some old canes. I don't get fall rebloom, probably because of our summer drought with no irrigation, but LO has nicely ornamental hips: orange-red and oval, with persistent black sepals, which make part of the fall show in her part of the garden. She roots easily.

SL looks much better in your garden than it did in mine, where it was vaguely mildewy. But our climates are very different, and also I had it in a morning-sun-afternoon-shade position. It may have wanted more sun. I have Leander planted in two positions, one full sun and one half day sun. The sun/shade one gets PM, while the other does not. In any case, that is a gorgeous rose you have there!
