Louise Odier die back
Comments (3)It's really hard to say if your Louise will grow - I suspect that unless you watered over the winter, the little plant might have suffered from being too dry. But where there is green cane, there is hope. Actually, planting the "crown" deep in your zone is a good thing. You don't say if your Louise Odier is own root or grafted, but if grafted that point where the root stock and the named variety are joined should be well underground - several inches. If own root, I still plant a few inches deeper than it was in the pot. That way, there is at least a bit of cane protected by the soil over winter. My own L.O. has been enduring being cut back severely each spring (sometimes right to the ground) for over a decade now, and she still makes a beautiful plant in my garden by summer. But my zone 4 is quite different than your CO zone 5. We get reliable snow cover and rarely have any drought periods. You don't say if you do or not, but I hope you are mulching heavily to retain what moisture you can. Just keep your little Louise watered well and see what she does. Don't fertilize her either just yet since you've basically uprooted and replanted her. I wish you great good luck with her this year!...See MoreLouise Odier - Bourbon rose
Comments (8)That depends on the weather i suppose, never timed it realy, for years the bushes had to struggle with a large bamboo who took lots of light and water so reblooms were very sparse. For now there are still some buds to open but i'll try to post when there is a second flush....See MoreMadame Isaac Periere or Louise Odier?
Comments (17)Hi all, Thanks for all the comments Much appreciated! The reason why i didn't mention my location is because i wanted to hear from your experience whether its good or bad about those roses. Location is important, but I also think factors like the potting mix, the container size and the type of bare-rooted rose that you recieve are also important too. I've tried growing Evelyn and Jude four times, and noticed sometimes they were great performers but other times they were weak. Anyway, I've looked up both roses on Youtube posted by Jeffcat, and noticed that MIP has vicious thorns and the bush look gangling and lack the graceful habit, and i'm not sure if i would like the flower form. As for Louise Odier... the blooms are small and very similar to MofC and I already have Mayor of Casterbridge and is doing great in my garden. I've changed my mind and decided to give Madame Pierre Oger a try. Thanks!...See MoreLouise Odier is beginning again!
Comments (15)Carol, mine came from Rogue Valley Roses. I can’t help but think it’s an especially heat tolerant and vigorous clone. Somehow I missed the phrase on HMF’s description page of Louise Odier that clearly states, “Does not do well in warm climates.” Apparently, MY particular Louise Odier missed that phrase, as well. She outblooms nearly every rose I grow! Had I read that, I wouldn’t have her now. I’m SO glad I didn’t see that part:) Lisa...See MoreUser
