Looking for a copy of, The Aloes of South Africa.or The Aloes of Tropical Africa and Madagascar.by Gilbert W Reynolds.

Would be very interested in buying a copy of either of these books.

Garden Street Books It's not featured here, but ya may want to check back sometimes...

Touchwood Books This one is "Guide to the Aloes of South Africa" by Ben-Erik Van Wyk and Gideon Smith, it's everywhere on the net and supposed to be good too.

Amazon.com They say it's hard to find as out of print, but worth a try...

Clarke's Bookshop Here, I've found one for you, they have one for sale here for 1250 Rand, they say USD$1 = R10, you need to scroll down to find it in the list. Then email them your request and either send credit card details or send a cheque. They are at:

Lotsa money, but it sounds very rare.

Hi Taco Truck, It looks like you have Euphorbia tirucalli in the strip - IMO, that's a liability as it exudes sap that's a chemical irritant/burning element. It's a plant that you don't want around moving people so much, but if everyone's aware of it, it's an awesome plant for the landscape. I love your idea about the strip, and it would be great to have that as an open garden, but IMO, that's the best place to have softer plants, or at least ones that won't cause too much pain. LzdDr, Again, great pictures of the progression - wow, to plant out C. juttae and others like that and watch them explode in growth!

OOOoooo...FABULOUS photos, Rian!! Eye Candy!! Loved to see: the Monilaria, the Lachenalia (like one I have), the C. hemisphaerica, (yes, I think it is a) Bijlia ( I might still have a B. cana), the Aloinopsis lodewykii & the Aloe bulbifera (I lost all mine)! Loved ALL the pix. THANKS!

Eryn - Aloe plants (and almost all succulents) will indeed change colors due to light levels. Some will turn quite red, others a bronzy brown color. Many find these color changes desirable. It is not necessarily a sign of trouble. I find that nearly every time I repot or replant an Aloe vera plant, it will turn brownish for a while. This is probably due to stress. This Aloe vera plant is quite green in this picture - This is the same plant, looking quite bronze colored, or suntanned. If the plant is otherwise healthy, don't sweat the color change. It may be a good sign that your plant is getting enough good light. ;-)
