What you need to do is come up with a potting mix that you are confident will not retain too much moisture, will have adequate aeration and is stable. Then, you will not have to worry about "overwatering". You have all the right ingredients: turface, pumice, a little pine bark I suppose. If you see that your plant is actively growing - to the trained eye it is clear: brighter colors at the meristem, plump tissue at the growth points) - then water well and don't worry about the season. One or two untimely waterings will not kill a healthy plant. A weak plant succumbs to rot. x

Oh man, first the beautiful Aloes, then the Hummer? Enough to make me cry. By the way, those of you who think the bella is the best are wrong, wrong, wrong. Suprafolia has it all. The leaves are worthy of an ode, the flowers before they open inspire you to song. The blue overlapped, delicately edged floral scales stop you in mid thought. The flowers after they open are second in the Aloe universe only to A. praetoriensis. (The looks of the 2 species is very similar, but the supra has nicer foliage.) These are not opinions, but facts. ;) lzrddr, if I get a good pic of A. preatoriensis bloom, can i post it here? I don't want to dirty up your thread.

Thanks, Norma - Sorry I didn't give more information. The pot is 7" wide and 7" deep, although I plan to repot. There are really what looks like two plants side by side in the pot, but I'm guessing that the smaller of the two is an offset. There are several VERY small offsets as well. They are all showing a fan effect in their growth - leaves going out to the left and to the right, just opposite each other. The longest leaf (tenth from bottom of stack of 13 total) is 13-14" long, and its width at the base is 1.25". This makes the overall plant width 26-28". The smaller plant is about 17" wide, with a stack of ten leaves total. The top two leaves growing out of the larger plant are changing their direction, veering off from the straight fan structure. I don't know if this is due to the plant's maturing or to the fact that this larger plant is laying on its side, and the newer leaves perhaps reaching for the light. The teeth on the leaf edges are not super soft, but not hard enough to be prickles. The teeth are that pale green-white that the spots are. The leaf color is a kind of apple green, whitish at the base. I did look up Aloe suprafoliata, but the pictured plants looked quite a bit different from mine. It looks like a sturdier, stouter, more densely-stack plant, and the color was quite different. If all this info helps, that's great, but I plan to do what you suggest: just enjoy the plant. Actually, I only wanted to know the name so I could look up the care for it, especially the low temps and the heat/sun tolerance. I have most of my succulents out on the balcony (west-facing in Sacramento, CA) and sheltered from the cold, but the more delicate are indoors near the west window. The ones outdoors seem generally to do best if they stay out there all winter, being brought inside only when the temp gets below 32, but knowing nothing about this plant, I didn't like to risk it. I wanted to show the progress of my two A. polyphylla, but having issues adding the photos so bare with me a moment... I got them both in late March of this year. I had some better photos where my hand was beside them when I first potted them up, but I’m having trouble getting them from the cloud. Hopefully you can get the idea. Ok so the first two are the same plant end of March 2020 and then today. It’s grown quite a bit but no spiral yet. The ruler in the top pic shows that it was about 4 inches across in March. Edited to add: I finally got the March pictures from the cloud. WHEW! Here is the smaller one. It’s grown quite a few new leaves & has filled out. No spiral here yet, either. I’m happy they made it through the heat of the Summer. We’ve had some cold nights down in the 40’s F. I haven’t covered them so far. Do I need to? Thanks in advance for any advice you can share.
