Metrosideros' dying horribly

We have several Metro's at work (Sunshine Coast, QLD, Australia), and they are all being killed horribly. The symptoms are as follows-

Foliar die off starting in the crown/outer foliage.

Lifting of the bark on diseased limbs at limb axis.

There is no evidence of fras, but there are borer holes.

I am wondering whether it is a specie of weevil, due to the lack of any other sign of beastie. There is no foliar damage or malformation, nor is there any bark damage with the exception of the lifting of the bark at the limb bases. Once the problem shows evidence in a tree/shrub, it quickly spreads through out the plant and kills it. We have tried physically removing affected limbs, but to no avail.

This problem has spread to all of the Metro's at work, and today evidence was found of it beginning in the Raphiolepsis indica's.

All help or suggestions would be appreciated.

It shouldnt matter that the Raphiolepsis indicas are dying as they are proving to be a bit of a weed problem anyway.

In the last few years I've mostly been making jams and jellies, Ana's raspberry vinegar and Annie's strawberry rhubarb jelly are a couple of my favorites. I'm definitely going to try Natals Berry Berry Hot Pepper Jelly, it looks soooooo good. I freeze more than I can nowadays, always used a water bath when I did can so that limited what I could put up. I used to do a lot of peaches, pears, cherries and plums, they taste way better than what you can buy, especially peaches. We've got a propane burner (for want of a better name) which we take out and fire up outside either in the courtyard or lathhouse where it's cool and do any water bath canning there, no need to steam up the kitchen. I just checked on the fish this morning and I dont see anymore dead one's. They are still all covered in the spots and the weather has gotten very chilly and rainy. Does anyone know if the treatment will work when the temp in the pond is around 50? Also, on the bottle it says that I can treat for 3 days in a row should i treat today when it is cold and raining? How long does it take for the spots on the fish to go away? Thanks in advance for any advice that you can give

Could it be pH of the soil? Check your pH. They usually prefer neutral to slight acidic.

You know I saw the same thing at the bike trail my husband and I go to and I thought it was the oddest thing. First the butterflies were flying separately and everything look normal then they got together and rested together for a bit and I thought that's normal they are probably having fun...........if you know what I mean then all of a sudden they were both still joined together and the one lifted up and started flying away with the other motionless still hooked together. I thought it was very strange and started to be concerned. What was that all about? I have never seen behavior like that before.

Could it be a viral infection ? Sounds quite similar to something I had with my Robinia...I hope not as the only cure was removal and replanting. Good luck.

Sounds like fungal infection. Fungus to root system ? Pest at larval stage eat root, beetle borer stage eat bark - infection spread all round possibly. Better get some sample bits and pieces and get an expert opinion.
