New Zealand GW forum dying horribly

Where are all you NZ gardeners or is it the usual kiwi syndrome-leave it to the Ozzies. This forum should be put out of it's misery and closed down or (like I think should happen to NZ) be incorperated in with Australia. Thats if they want us-and why would they? It amazes me that the main contributors to this site are Ozzies. And most of them can even spel witch is a hughe shocc... Glenn

Scuse me Glenn? My spelinks just grate, thanks! Of course we'd want you - I thought it was a huge shame when we were segregated.

Half the Ozzies don't now that NZ is over here ;-0 and we do have a garden site, which is a bit slow at present too. Maybe we don't just have that many problems.
I agree shut down this one and add extra pages to the Gallery.

Hi delynn, Have you heard about the Newbie Seed Project on GardenWeb? I'm a newbie like you and I just got a wonderful free package of all different kinds of seeds from that project -- all you have to do is send a SASBE to the GW member who runs it, bakemom (her email address is kcmccoyesq@aol.com). There's a thread about it on the Seed Trading forum right now -- the header for the thread is "Newbie Seed Project Marches On." Also, check out the Wintersown.org website -- they're currently offering two different free assortments of seeds that are good for winter sowing (a general assortment and a tomatoes-only assortment). here is a partial list of toxic plants that I had when my kids where little. This list has a toxic list number of 1 meaning that it is major toxicity. By googling toxic plants you will get a mass list of links to check out but this one in particular I like because of it rating of toxicity with each plant listed angel trumpet azalea belladona carolina jasmine cardinal flower chinese lantern datura delphinium flowering tobacco foxglove heather healiotrope hydrangea jimeson weed lantana larkspur lily of the valley' lobelia love in a mist love lies bleeding lupin monkshood morning glory night blooming jasmine pampas grass periwinkle rhodedendron tomato non fruit part vinca This didn't mean that I didn't grow any of these plants when my children where young, it's just that I was super careful about where they where located and planted them in areas that my kids would be near only with supervision. I also didn't have pets or livestock that could get into them. The kitty was and still is always a house pet. Too many wild animals around in the woods that would love to have her for a meal. Also, their formatting is having the opposite effect as well ... pictures that were formatted as smaller by using height= and width= are now showing up in their huge original size. For example, let's say I have posted 3 pictures side by side. The original size for the first one in pixels is 200x200, the second is 300x300, and the third is 800x800. Using formatting, I could have all 3 pictures show up as 200x200. Their new formatting is overriding the pictures and reverting them to their original sizes, so the 3rd picture is showing up as huge in comparison. Now, let's assume that 800x800 is the largest picture they will allow. If someone posts a picture that is larger than that, then it is automatically being resized down to their max of 800x800. As writersblock pointed out, that is making some of the pics too small to be legible. And they still have not fixed the font style. They still have it in this hard to read font. Can we please revert back to "do no harm" ? Tamara, where are you ?!?!?!?!

Not everyone knows their zone or even understands what it means. Say there was a poster from Saudi Arabia, for example, or China. If they would just put roughly their region into their name it might helpful. Marie: if people included their zone and/or their city/region in their name as it shows up upon posting, especially when they posted a question about a IDing a shrub, then it would be a lot easier to ID it without having to ask a lot of followup questions...which may or may never get answered by the original poster (OP). So, it would save me, the ID'er and the OP time. So it is critical information for certain questions or posts, but not all. I dont' want to have to click on their name to try to find more information -- which may or may not be there. Also, I see you have a (6) by your name -- assume that is zone? A zone number by itself is somewhat helpful, but a cold desert zone 6 is completely different than a Mid-Atlantic zone 6, so there is still some ambiguity in that. A region of a state would be a helpful addition, for example...SW Ohio or Eastern Colorado Plains.

Hey, Kiwis, we want you and maybe to combine is the thing. We love having your input on the OZ sites. Glenn, its just a catch up thing and in time I reckon the NZ sites will take off. But you have brought some good things to the OZ forums, only sorry they don't deal direct with your shows, however they are very relevant to us all. I would hate to see you & Heather and lots of others just visit NZ sites and leave us forever.

I can understand why this forum is dying - posters so frequently don't get any replies to queries and so go o/seas (so to speak) with their posts. Must admit to doing the same thing, as previous posts didn't glean a whole lot of info.
I wouldn't have any real objection to amalgamating with them over the ditch, but on the other hand, there is nothing quite like local knowledge when it comes to problem solving.
Maybe we can still get this up and running....?

Hi I only found this website by chance!! I do a 10minute live radio show each week on gardening and I was asked as question so used Google and wow - there was Garden Web..... Signed on immediately!! Perhaps the secret is to advertise the website more thoroughly???
