And though of course we are looking forward to growing some of your fantastic NZ natives esp Dicksonia and Metrosideros, we'd also like to know what "British" plants do well in N Island climate. Are all fuschias (OK I know it's S American apart from F.procumbens) hardy out of doors and how about roses, does the warm damp climate cause a lot of blackspot? A million other ?s but any other observations, especially from folks who have gardened both in NZ and Uk would be more than welcome.

Ian, well you couldn't be becoming a better place to live, bar none, :-))) When do you plan to get here.

WE have a lot of english plants. Auckland is a big city and very spread out and is still spreading. What part of Auckland are you going to.

I have not been to Britain, let alone gardened there, but there are heaps and heaps of plants grown here that are also grown in Britain. There is almost no limit to what you can grow here, depending of course on what part of the country you are in. And the styles of garden vary from the ultra formal, through cottage gardens to shambolic, weedy wildernesses. I've given you a few gardens from all over the country to visit.

As a retired teacher, I have to echo purpleinopp's post as far as knowing how to use different resources (and people are a resource) and finding info. An additional skill that is much needed is knowing how to discern whether or not the info is true, and remembering that just because you read or hear something, it isn't necessarily true. If the OP is an advanced biology student worried about his/her grade, the first thing that student will most likely do after getting info from this site is to confirm it. And therein lies a lot of learning. If there is a true desire to help learning and not just spoon feed info, it would be useful to provide one reason for each suggestion...that would give the OP a place to start with a confirmation. #5...I'm sure I'm off base since it hasn't been suggested, but the first thing I thought of looking at #5 was an oenothera...based on the shape of what I think is a flower bud or seed pod, and, again what I think I see, the stigma. As others have said, it is difficult to discern details when the flowers have been dried and pressed, and in these photos, even colors.

"A foreclosure is not nearly the same as a previous owner not vacating as required under the contract. At that point they are simply tresspassing." I disagree. After a foreclosure, the borrower is supposed to be out of the house, as they no longer own it. If you buy a house and close on it, the old owners no longeer own it. In that way, it's the same. The only way that the woman has any legal standing to the property after closing is if there is a lease in effect. Let's assume that she does not. You cannot just show up on her door and kick her out because she's trespassing. She lives there, whether or not she has legal standing to do so. You must then go through eviction proceedings to get her to move. Most of the time, sending a Notice to Vacate is enough to scare the heck out of someone because they know that they shouldn't be there anyway, however, if they don't leave, you then have to continue with the eviction process laid out by statute. All of the states have different rules. This is why it is imperative that the OP speak with an attorney regarding this mess. The OP cannot assume that they can force this woman out without due process.

Hi Carson- yes, we oldtimers can't wait to get a peek at your beautiful house. I want to add, knowing what the weather has been like around here as of late, if that doesn't contribute to the sagging energy you've experienced. It is so soggy out here just a little east of you that I ruin every pair of shoes I wear out into the "yard". I vaguely remember that a bright yellow ball is supposed to be in the sky for most of the day in May... but, today we were still under a flash flood warning. Those of us who have been in for awhile know that part of the letdown is fighting through the stuff that got done wrong or that's not perfect- but not worth the hassle to get corrected. And there's going to be a lot of those things. A nick in an otherwise perfect floor. A misplaced coaxial plug. Lighting mistakes like the one we made in a front bedroom. The realization that after all the hard work of supervising your crews and researching your choices, the house still is a work in progress even after you move in- is a little deflating. BUT, we have had moments of pure, unadulterated bliss too. And I fully expect your house to be looking like Biltmore by Christmas:) As we've addressed and continue to address the finishing touches on our house, I remind myself of the question I ask myself each time I feel overwhelmed- How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time:)

Sheesh, I don’t know the ins and outs of the financial end of OverDrive, but I suspect money may be the answer to your question. I have cards to 2 different libraries. Their offerings from OverDrive overlap but are not identical. From the OverDrive FAQs: OverDrive offers several different lending models for digital content. Titles available under the Simultaneous Use model can be borrowed simultaneously by an unlimited number of users. Many OverDrive titles are available under the One Copy/One User lending model. This means that if your digital library only has one copy of a title, then only one user can borrow that specific title at a time, just as if it were a physical book. The more copies you own, the more copies can be borrowed simultaneously. Some publishers offer other lending models that let you rent titles for a certain period of time or number of circulations, or pay only when titles circulate.

Hi. Fushias do well in NZ. They are probably hardier in Auckland and further north than where I am in the South Waikato. Here they die down in winter but are away easily in spring. Roses do very well in NZ, Auckland has beautiful rose gardens and are within easy driving distance wherever in Auckland you are. Blackspot can sometimes be a problem. Most roses seem to bloom from September/October to April. Thats why some rose breeders moved to NZ from the Norhern Hemisphere. Hope you enjoy your trip out. and hope you love living here. Its really a great place to be.

Auckland is definately the best place in the world to live, but we are currently living in the second best place(Melbourne) We moved from the UK and NZ does something to you so that you will never wish to leave. No frosts so you can garden all year round, we were really surprised how warm it was since the usual idea of NZ it mostly like England but at the opposite time of the year. Oh yeah! and you know those tender annuals, you can plant them in the garden year round. We lived in Kohimarama, beautiful views of Rangitoto and the best tennis club in the world.

Well, you will notice a big difference in the time it takes things to grow, it's fast here.

I'm out in west Auckland and there is an amazing place that you could visit, it is West Lynn Garden Society, 73 Parker Avenue, New Lynn it has 4 and a 1/2 acres of all sorts of plants. open 10am to 4pm you'll love it. Its a hidden treasure!! It is not a business, its a privately owned public garden.
