Here's the best advice I can give you, Lois: When you move to Raleigh, quickly get yourself to the Farmers Market and look for the rose lady. That would be Donny Bohan (she infrequently posts here as SheerBliss). Donny has a VAST collection of roses (antique and modern), and is usually at the market daily, spring thru mid-autumn, with a wide selection of healthy, well-grown roses for sale. She's a delight to spend time with, and can provide you with excellent advice re rose-gardening in the piedmont region of NC. Many of us became familiar with Donny and her roses when she operated Roseland, a mail-order nursery. You can peruse her collection here: http://www.helpmefind.com/gardening/l.php?l=17.4014&tab=2 As for Bourbons, I think you're going to find them to thrive in your new NC garden. Allow me to be the first to welcome you to the Tar Heel State! Here is a link that might be useful: Raleigh Farmers Market

That is way too funny, me thinkest thou dost protest too much. Who you trying to kid by under rating your photographic accumen ? I think you have a fine shutter digit as evidenced by your beautiful roses :-) Your Mr Lincolns put my one to shame since mine has assumed that nefariously all too common one cane wonder distinction :-( Just to humor you however, consider this as my 4 day notice of impending 1 week vacation :-) I am kind of the head of my wife's family now that her parents are gone and by executive order I declared a yearly family vacation for all. Boy do I need it after building the nieces deck last w/e. Last year was our first and we rented a big house at the ocean and it was such a hit that everyone is really excited for this year. It's a totally different venue with lots of fun activities.

I have to admit that there is something special about a Tiffany bud that makes one grab for the camera. That's a beaut Eric. Also I particularly like the photo of Benjamin Britten. It looks like what one imagine's a cabbage rose should look like! Thanks for the pics! Pauline - Vancouver Island

I have a bedroom with cabbage rose paper in my house. It is beautiful. The paper is similar to the pics powermuffin posted...cream background, lots of pink flowers, green leaves, etc. We have cream colored lace curtains over blinds on the windows. When our dtr was young, she had pink and green bedding and accents. Now that she is grown, the bedding is a deep cream, the accents are mainly green with a little pink and ivory. The furniture has always been painted off-white. And, yes, it is the same paper. I've washed it several times, it's still perfect. We don't have a lot of sleepover guests (who aren't our kids!), but everyone who sees the room thinks it's like a bed & breakfast. I love the look! In a sloped-wall attic, I think it would be perfect!
