Is RVR the only nursery that sells Paul Barden roses?
Comments (29)I appreciated the post and explanation. It seems it would be very difficult to run a business like that, and we must remember that only these smaller ones, generally, grow and sell the more unusual roses we so crave. They seem to be family operations, and trying to juggle all of it would be really hard. RVR I didn't count the number offered, but it seems huge. Imagine trying to guess how many to propagate of which each season and the enormous amount of work in the field and possibly greenhouse, let alone the sales end of it! No complaints about RVR, and it would take a serious annoyance before I'd make a fuss publicly. But I don't think it is wrong to discuss it as long as it is just stating the facts and not intended to turn other customers whose experiences may be different away. They had what I wanted. No one else did except one I found out later in my other post going here about RVR. I have 2 Hettie and 2 Awakening I got from bands, Barden roses. They don't do well in my zone without a lot of extra fussing in the winter. BUT they seem resistant to blackspot and almost everything except Jap beetles, shiny leaves, no spraying, maybe kelp. I so wanted Marianne and Jeri but will pass now....See MoreNew Paul Barden Roses at Rogue Valley Roses
Comments (24)I am sitting here, trying to decipher YMMV?!?! Anyway, I might give it a try anyway. BS is a major problem in my garden. I don't spray w/big chem, but have had good results with finely ground cornmeal. Especially if I'm diligent. Dakota Redwing is such an appealing rose; I feel like I have to give it a try. Thanks for your honest input and I look forward to hearing about more of your work! Golden Buddha is the only rose in my garden that I want more than one of the plant. Wonderful, happy rose which delights me @ time I see it....See MoreNew Paul Barden Roses at Rogue Valley Roses
Comments (42)I should show photos that depict its lack of vigor too. Great for dry heat, no crisping... but maybe not good for other areas. No new little canes yet. I really should be pinching off buds as instructed, I just got too busy. One got some black spot and defoliated, which isn't a problem ever here so if you're in a black spot area it's probably not so good. The others all have a little black spot too. This one gets the most sun and heat... it's the happiest. All my broccoli and celery, lettuce and radishes bolted in that bed too. It's hot....See MoreRRD?
Comments (6)I would totally isolate it Kelly, and see what happens. Don't be touching it and touching other plants. It is spread by a mite. You could call the company that you got it from and see if they have RRD in the area. I have decided not to purchase any roses that are leafed out from companies living in RRD areas. I do not buy leafed out roses locally. See this link that Patty W (above) was kind enough to answer for me. I want to avoid this disease in my area for as long as possible. http://forums2.gardenweb.com/discussions/4616955/can-rrd-be-imported-into-my-garden-on-bare-root-roses Here's another thread about ordering roses from cross country rose nurseries. http://forums.gardenweb.com/discussions/3896057/rrd-and-ordering-from-cross-country-nurseries?n=11 Rebecca...See MoreRelated Professionals
