Not my style and I think it'd add to a cluttered appearance in the kitchen with two different colors. BUT, if it were stained all one color, I don't think I'd have an issue w/ them

Too disjointed looking. It's like someone couldn't decide on white painted beadboard cabinets and stained wood cabinets and thought this was a way to get both looks---but didn't think about it really hard. It'd be much better to have an island and hutch in the white beadboard and the rest in the stained. BUt, if someone loves it, then someone loves it. BUt, I'd hate to try to sell that house!

They look bizarre to me, especially with that counter that doesn't match and adds to the disjointed look. A coat of creamy white paint would improve them.

I wrote to the craigslist lister and she/he said that the inset is stained a lighter color not painted. IF it were such a great deal that we couldn't pass them up; I could restain which was my initial reaction. Also remove the inset and add some glass on the uppers.

I just found these on craigslist while doing my regular craigslist scrolling. Don't hold back my friends... I'm not sure what i think. I do like the uniqueness, the substantial look/feel of the end treatments and molding, and it seems as if it would go with my dining table if I were to keep the table.

I'm a big fan of painted cabs and I could really love those if they were painted white, but I'm guessing that's not the look youre going for.

I also think they could suit a certain style of home, but not all. Do you have pics of the rest of your home or could you describe it to us?

The inset looks like 70's panelling to me. The two tone is rough particularly on the standard height drawers. I think the inset would be nicer just plain without the grooves. In terms of basic shape profile they have a nice weight and feel if you have a substantial enough room. I'd paint or glaze them but that's just me.

They look like superior quality; mahogany and what, ash? The light wood can be stained or toned down to more or less match. I like the raised mouldings a lot. The door-less/all-drawer bases are very trendy right now. It depends on how big the savings are vs. how many of the cabinets will translate into your layout. The problem is getting some new cabinets to match and fill in any holes in your layout.

The poster claimed they were solid mahogany with the inset stained lighter. I didn't know that mahogany would go that light with a stain. We don't live in the house now. We use to rent out the house and plan on remodeling/moving back there in a year to two and ulimatley it will be our retirement house. I believe I could make them work in a layout... I have only come up with approx. 100 layouts! Though I have an appreciation of painted cabs; I do prefer the look of more natural wood. I wonder if the backs of the inset are natural mahogany and could be flipped.

I wouldn't by them based on the fact that your remodel is still at least a year away. You never know what could happen between now and then. You might change your mind about how you want the kitchen to look. I would really have to LOVE something to think that I would still LOVE it in a year. I'm sure there will be other good deals around when the time comes.

The panels could be bleached mahogany. That's a effect not used since the 60's. But if they are solid they can be stripped and re-stained, then they'd match. I doubt you can flip the panels easily and neatly; they are probably in a groove- getting them out would involve some tricky sawing, and reinstalling them would be a good bit of work for it to look as neat as the original. Not to be accomplished with the usual household arsenal of tools.

Hate to pile on, but like many other posters, I don't like the light insets. However, I think they are handsome cabinets generally, if something could be done with the insets.

Yep... kinda what I ended up thinking. I'm no where near ready but thought it might be one of those once in a lifetime deals. However, I'm not even sure of a layout, would have to rework the inset color, and I'm thinking that there will be other deals out there when the time gets closer. Oh well... I'm sure they're a good deal for the money (I think they'd take around 2K for them) but it's just not time and won't work for me. Thanks for your input.

I dislike them until I picture them with a better counter--solid black would work well, but that granite sure doesn't.

They could look great in the right place.

I don't care for the reddish granite. But the cabs themselves are way busy with the applied molding, beaded inset, and two tones. They would require some work for me to tone them down some... I like clean lines. I did like the wood quality, lots of drawers, and it kinda reminded me of my dining table.

ok..I was going to reply that they weren't my taste...but since you didn't buy them / don't own them...girl, those are some fugly cabinets....I think those are a "before" picture..not an after! :)

First, are they an unbelievable deal, price-wise? I would only go for it this far in advance if they were. Also, do you know the depths of the drawers and if they have nice smooth, full extension glides or anything else you are looking for? I think you are right...they go nicely with your table.

However, I would not buy them with the intention of stripping and staining. You may never get the result you want with two different surfaces to deal with. Also, for those particular cabs, I think they would look best painted. Light or even dark would look best. I do agree with whoever said they are too busy and I think with all that detailing, I'd rather the grain be minimized too (although this is not usually my instinct) and paint would help unify them.

I also don't at all like the inserts on the smallest drawers. The teeny weeny strip looks goofy and I would be way tempted to just replace the drawer fronts.

You know, the more I think about it, the more I'm afraid for you to do it. I don't remember, what is the condition of the cabs in the kitchen you will be downsizing to again?

Too thick and goopy looking for me. I like inset panels on larger cabs but on the drawers it looks hokey/myles of style to me.

It's funny, but it was finding "such a deal!" on craigslist that got my kitchen project rolling.

Long story short; I made an appt. to see the cabs, & although they WERE a deal, & would actually work in my kitchen, and (this one's important) they were still available so that I could buy the other cabs I needed (you would NOT be able to match those so you would be stuck with that layout), the piece that killed it was that the corner super susan was only a 24" cab. The most useless cabinet imaginable.

Maybe those drawers & insets could be saved, but it would take work, & I don't think they would end up being such a bargain, plus you would have so many limitations.

But if you really want to consider them - go see them. An in person visit will tell you a lot.

Nuh-uh.... I decided that it was too much work, too much ahead of time, too much risk, too "fugly" (I like that word), too two toned, way to many toos. I'll wait till the time comes and deal with it then.

Honestly - ugly as hell.

Those inserts with the beadboard look to me like loads of nooks and crannies, both horizontal and vertical, for grime, dripped stuff, goopy sticky stuff, crumbs, etc. to get stuck in. A nightmare to keep clean, whether you like the look or not.

I really like them!

I've seen a few very high dollar kitchens done with two tone cabs just to break up the monotony of a large kitchen. You do need a certain kind of house to carry it off, though: would be just awful in a contemporary setting.

I think its a great look. Lightyears ahead of the awful 'iceberg' look that *everyone* wants right now [and will be tearing out in 10 years]. They look like something handcrafted at the turn of the last century. If the moldings around the inset were simpler, they'd be close to perfect, IMO.

Again... thanks to all. There's just too much going on with these cabs for my taste. Even if I were to restain the inset (which I would have had to do to be happy) they're just too busy for the look I hope to achieve. If I were going for painted cabs; I wouldn't see the point of getting mahogany. I would get some kind of paint grade wood. I admire so many different styles of kitchens that I have seen on this forum; it's hard to find one that' my favorite. But at the end of the day; I don't think painted cabs would suit me and I wouldn't want to paint over a beautiful wood. So wait I will, till my time comes; OR if a SPECTACULAR deal presents itself that's just too good to pass up and miraculously would work for a layout I'd like. (ya... like how likely is that!)
