I am only judging from a pic, of course, but the colors she chose look very much like I imagine her to be. Young, sweet, hopeful, open. Is it going to be a doll quilt?

BTW, her hair is beyond beautiful.

The first thing I sewed in a summer sewing class at the local Singer store 52 years ago was a piece of lined notebook paper. Thanks for the memory. ;>

Thanks guys! She is so proud of her work. I took her last Saturday to a quilt club class at the LQS and the shop owner draws numbers out of basket to give prizes away and my DD helped. Then the shop owner told her to pick out any FQ from the shop. Then I bought four more FQ that coordinated. She sketched out a pattern with my help. She wants it to be a wall hanging.

She has been watching me piece her new bed quilt together, so I showed her how the machine worked and the name of the parts as I went along. She took to it like a duck to water!

She said she was nervous and didn't want to mess up and get the seams crooked. I just kept reminding her that it did not have to be perfect and that only GOD is perfect. I did cut the pieces out for her and did the ironing of the seams. She's not quite old enough to handle them properly.

My Mother also taught me on notebook paper, so it brought back memories too.

How cute is it that she drew in the pattern on her design! Please put a little pocket on the back and slip in her sketch and a pic with that smile. Can you imagine the day she pulls them out and shares them with her daughter? By that time she'll probably be doing king sizes and show quilts too. ;>

Copy her design on fabric and make it her label or a block on the back!
She is beautiful, and she should be very proud, and so should Mom!!!
What a great way to spend a rainy day.
I never had anyone to teach me how to sew-she is a lucky girl.

You have simply made my day. First off, that is a beautiful child. If you could bottle that hair shade, you'd be a millionaire.

Now, here is why it tugged my heartstrings. It's getting rare to find children learning at the hands of their parents. I think it's a very necessary tradition and it is special. That's about the age I put my children at a machine, and also my grandchildren. Those things are empowering to kids and cultivate an appreciation of a job well done they'll carry for the rest of their lives. p.s. she did a good job.

I love the idea of making her sketch a label. I'll have her write the date on it before I make a copy onto fabric. I like the idea of the pocket for a picture. I have some clear plastic that I can stitch on and take the picture out when I need to wash it.

I quilted it and put the binding and sleeve on. Will post more pics when I get the label made.

That pic of your daughter's red hair just tugged at my heart, LOL. My step-daughter and stepson both had that exact color, and it just took me back 30 years - in such a good way!

What a precious gift you've shared with her! Brings tears to my eyes and makes me miss my mother even though I'm 58! She taught me to sew and it was a bond we always shared.

Great that she's learning so sew at such a young age, I promise that'll be useful to her.

I learned to sew when very small (4 or 5). While I can't remember who taught me (I thought Mom, she says it wasn't her) it still comes in handy, buttons, hems, made me quasi-fearless as a quilter cause I knew I could hand sew things well.

Downside is I really resent having to pay someone to hem my trousers. I live alone, so there's no one to pin them & I hate to pay a tailor.

Upside is a almost enjoy hand tacking down my bindings as it's the only hand sewing I get to do much of these days.

You & your little quilter enjoy -- a job well done! Her bright smile bursting w/ pride really DOES say it all!
