It's an extra, I have an older Kawasaki 125cc. Everyone keeps telling me to move up, but I am not out the there to race, just enjoy myself. Plus, I have short legs so I cant go over a 32" seat clearance.This bike belonged to a friend that moved to england and he could not take it with him so he gave it to me for a deal I could not pass up.

Suzanne, the morphing from fisherman to Guggenheim Fellow has been quite a trip. He told me one day I had been his role model, morphing from stay-at-home mom to starting college at 40 and making it to college professor. Nothing could ever make me feel better about my own life than that. I'm sure plenty of people have had things like this happen to them. You watch one person do something you did not think possible and you become more confident yourself and perhaps move ahead into exciting transitions yourself. Now that the ride is over, I realize that I was pretty scared about riding a bike alone such a long distance. Yet I think the bike was a lot safer than walking, especially because Paul is a small man, barely 5'2", and dark. At least there is chance at a faster getaway. I was afraid when he was in the Southern states he's be taken for an illegal! He says the problems were in the cities--Lafayette wins the prize for bike-bashing drivers. As for Jesse White Crow walking, that's pretty amazing. I'll Google him because I'd like to know why he's making this trek. I do think it's dangerous because one man alone can be fair game to even two more people. And if he is a man of color, it's certainly much more difficult.

Bike riding to STRENGTHEN knees before rose season!

Phyl - I'm almost 40 and have begun having problems with my knees too. No injury, but a lot of pain when I bend. I saw an orthopedist a few weeks ago who confirmed there is no arthritis, but I'm now seeing a physical therapist. They say my problem is that I need to strengthen my quad muscles so they've given me lots of exercises. Here a few that they've given me. You should ask your doctor if these might work for you. 1. Sit with your back against a wall or flat surface. Legs extended out in front of you. Contract your quad muscles, pressing the backs of your knees down into the floor. Hold each contraction for 5 seconds. Do 2 sets of 15. 2. In the same sitting position, bend your knees so that your feet are flat on the floor. Place a rolled up towel or pillow between your knees. Squeeze the towel and hold for 5 seconds. Again, do 2 sets of 15. 3. Lie flat on your back and do 30 leg lifts with your toes flexed (not pointed). Do each leg separately Don't hold the lift. Just make sure it's a slow, controlled lift that engages your quads. There are some others that they've given me, but they are more difficult to explain, but you can find many on-line. Look for ones that focus on building your quad muscles since those are the muscles that hold your kneecap in place as you bend, and will take pressure off of your knees and reduce your pain. Judy, we had rain a couple of times. One time we out ran it, on our way to the new overnight town, and got the tent set up just prior to a downpour with hail. Next time we found an open barn/equipment shed and took shelter during heavy rain, again with hail. Overall, it was a BLAST! :) Just like always. The route was similar to 2004, when I rode cross the US instead. No, I don't have to do it all tonight, but it's stuff just waiting for me. LOL and... got a mail, tomorrow is open house in Tulsa. Guess we will head over there, and mow, and make sure all looks good, since daughter number one moved back out. Oh, regular live.... :) Moni

Only an idiot would do this and I speak from experience. Many years ago, I hopped on my son's bike and took my Afghan hound for a run. Bad move, a very stupidly bad move. She bolted, I was thrown from the bike and had a major concussion. It was like a soap opera. I had amnesia. To this very day I can't tell you my name...just kidding... but I lost three days of my life. This happened on a Monday night and two days before I had bought a room size braided rug at John Wanamakers for the new house we had just moved into. After my fall, I walked into the living room and gasped..where did this rug come from? So , no a very bad idea. Another tragic story concerning dogs and accidents.....my very best friend from age 13 and a big animal lover too had a mastiff who weighed 160 pounds. About four years ago she took the dog out at midnight and the dog pulled her over and she smashed her head on the walk. She was unconscious for a few hours, came to and her husband took her to the hospital. Over these last years her condition deteriorated into Parkinsons and a year ago she was put into a home and last month had a feeding tube put in. She is flat on her back and cannot speak. So people , be careful with your dogs.

oh dont get me started...
I went to ride my bike today and as I and my two other riding buddies were unloading our bikes there was family riding four wheelers. There was a little girl about four years old riding hers with NO helomet, No gloves and NO shoes, she had sandles on but whatever. Anyhow, she got her speed up and was headed our direction, she turned too quickly and crashed. The 4 wheeler rolled on top of her. We ran over there and pulled off the four wheeler. I picked her up, she broke two fingers, scratched her face, arms and legs pretty bad. Her parents came running down yelling at her. WTF over? She was crying her head off in pain and they sat there yelling at her for crashing and scratching the 4wheeler.Apparently, according to them it was her fault she crashed. Well, as we were washing off all the rocks and dirt from her skin her dad and mom continued to yell at her. One of my friends chimed in asking them to chill out as it wasnt her fault she wasnt wearing any protective gear. They responded and it started to get ugly. They seemed more intent on yelling at her and cursing at us that they neglected her broken fingers. This was one time I was not above resorting to physical behavior but we told them leave and get her checked out. Some people...

Poor little girl. If the parents behaved that badly in public think how they treat her at home. I would have felt the same as you.
